Juno: An Excellent Canadian-Made Mattress For Sleepers on a Budget
The Bloom Earth, Bloom River, and Juno are popular mattresses in the fiercely competitive value-brand category. At a first glance, the Bloom and Juno mattresses appear to be similar. However, there are a few factors that immediately stand out after comparing these three mattresses.
Bloom mattresses are not only made in China, but each mattress has fewer than 500 customer reviews. Meanwhile, Juno not only delivers all of the same features as the Bloom Earth and Bloom River mattresses, but exceeds its competitor in a number of areas:
- Juno has a longer sleep trial by 20 nights
- Juno has a longer warranty by 5 years
- Juno has over 5,000 customer reviews
- Juno is Canadian-made
- Juno is a medium-firm mattress with consistent support
- Juno king-size mattresses sell for $100-$200 less than Bloom

Bloom and Juno are well-known mattress brands in Canada and both brands have built up a loyal customer base. So, what are the backgrounds behind Bloom and Juno?
Bloom
Best known for their radio jingle: “Why buy a mattress anywhere else? Ding!” Sleep Country has been a staple of Canadian’s lives for almost 25 years. Sleep Country introduced the first Bloom mattress in 2017, marking the Canadian retailer’s entrance into the ‘bed-in-a-box’ mattress space.
Juno
The Juno mattress was launched in August of 2019 by the Canadian mattress-in-a-box company GoodMorning.com. Designed, sold, and manufactured exclusively in Canada, Juno is the logical next step in the progression of GoodMorning.com’s mission to make high-quality sleep more affordable throughout Canada. This value mattress comes with all the features GoodMorning.com is famous for, such as the 120-night trial, 15-year warranty, and outstanding Canadian customer care – and does so at a very affordable price.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Bloom uses UPS to deliver their mattresses to Canadians. Juno used FedEx. All three mattresses will be delivered directly to customers doors throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck whilst the customer is at work.
Shipping time for Bloom and Juno is the same. All three bed-in-a-box mattresses will be delivered within 10 days.
As with any bed-in-a-box brand, Bloom and Juno heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. Juno has the longest sleep trial at 120 nights. Bloom only offers a 100-night sleep trial.
If a customer wishes to return Bloom or Juno mattress within the sleep trial, both companies will arrange to pick the mattresses up, but only Juno will issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees for the Juno mattress. Customers who decide to return the Bloom mattress can only return it to Sleep Country for an in-store credit or exchange. Customers who choose to exchange their Bloom mattress will pay an ‘Exchange Fee’ of $65 CAD. The exchange fee covers delivery of the new item and removal of the returned mattress.

The Bloom and Juno mattresses were delivered to us within the expected delivery time. All three mattresses were well protected by heavy-duty plastic layers within the boxes to protect the mattresses during shipping.
The Bloom and Juno mattress boxes were all sealed with heavy duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. Remember to be extra careful when opening the box with sharp objects.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. A simple ‘tip-and-pull’ motion is what we recommend. Simply tip the box from a vertical position into a horizontal position and pull the mattress out of the box. We recommend doing this process in the designated bedroom.
The Bloom and Juno mattresses are all protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic and customers will need to unwrap the first layer of plastic in order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape into a flat, albeit compressed, shape.
Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled mattress on to the designated bed frame, find the end of the outer layer plastic, pull it loose, and use the resulting momentum to roll the mattress into position on the frame. Once in position, remove that outer plastic layer. After completing this process, customers will see a folded and unrolled mattress. Simply unfold the mattress, the top cover will be facing up, and place the corners in the correct position on the frame or foundation.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic and the new Bloom and Juno mattresses will start decompressing. Remove this final layer of plastic and the mattress should expand to its full height within a few minutes. The Juno mattress fully expanded within 2 minutes. The Bloom mattresses began to expand after being removed from the box, but took multiple hours to fully inflate. However, we recommend leaving any boxed mattresses for several hours being using them to ensure they’ve fully expanded.

The Bloom Earth, Bloom River and Juno mattresses are all combination foam mattresses, all only available in one firmness option, and are all compressed, rolled, and shipped in a box.
One of the major differences between the Bloom Earth, Bloom River and Juno mattresses are the different types foam used for comfort and support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.
Also, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases each brand’s mattress design. Both Bloom mattresses have a machine-washable cover, however, the Juno mattress cover is spot clean only.
Bloom vs Juno Mattress Layers
Bloom Earth
Bloom River
Juno
Bloom Earth Mattress Layers
The Bloom Earth mattress contains 3 layers of foam:
- First layer: 1” of Gel Memory Foam. This layer is designed to help regulate body temperature and keep sleepers cool overnight.
- Second layer: 2.75” of Convoluted Foam. This “egg carton” transition foam provides an overall balance between the top and bottom layers, while allowing hot air a passageway out through the sidewalls of the mattresses.
- Third layer: 4.25” of Support Base Foam. This relatively thin base layer helps give the mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far. Unlike other Bloom mattresses, this layer does not include bamboo charcoal to help curb the gradual buildup of mattress odours.
Of note: Unfortunately, the density information for the layers is not available on the Sleep Country website.
Bloom River Mattress Layers
The Bloom River mattress contains 3 layers of foam:
- First layer: 0.75″ of Gel Memory Foam. This top layer provides immediate comfort as you lie down. The gel infusion should help to dissipate body heat. Sleep Country also mentions that this layer of foam contains latex lumbar support.
- Second layer: 2.5″ of Convoluted Foam. This egg-carton-shaped transition foam provides an overall balance between the top and bottom layers, while allowing hot air a passageway out through the sidewalls of the mattresses.
- Third layer: 3.75″ of Support Base Foam. This relatively thin base layer helps give the mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far. Like other Bloom mattresses, this layer is made with bamboo charcoal to help curb the gradual buildup of mattress odours.
Of note: Unfortunately, the density information for the layers is not available on the Sleep Country website.
Juno Mattress Layers
The Juno mattress contains two layers of foam. Like many combination foam mattresses available on the market today, these two layers work together to provide comfort and support.
- First layer: 2 inches of Full-Body Cooling Gel Foam. This top layer offers contoured comfort, as well as overall cooling and breathability. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft³.
- Second layer: 6 inches of Total Support Foam. This bottom layer allows Juno to provide support and firmness to sleepers. This layer improves overall edge support while reducing motion transfer. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft³.
Bloom vs Juno Mattress Cover
Bloom Earth
Bloom River
Juno
Bloom Earth Mattress Cover
Unlike the other Bloom mattresses, Bloom Earth has a simple grey cover without any decorations or brand identifiers.
The top cover is machine washable, a plus for anyone who decides not to use a mattress protector or who likes to keep their sleep surfaces as clean and fresh as possible. The grey cover can be zipped off from the base fabric, put in the washing machine on a delicate setting, and tumble-dried.
However, the zipper is located entirely underneath the mattress. This makes it less convenient to remove the cover.
Of note: The latest version of Bloom Earth appears to have a grey cover with a jacquard design and Bloom logo on the sidewall. Unfortunately, the cover composition was not listed on the product label for the mattress we reviewed or on the Sleep Country website for their latest version.
Bloom River Mattress Cover
The Bloom River mattress that we purchased for this review has a simple grey cover without any design flourishes or brand identifiers. Tiny perforations in the woven fabric cover the entire surface, giving Bloom River a bit of texture when you run your hand along it.
The top cover on Bloom River is machine washable (delicate cycle, cold or warm water). To remove it, you need to access a zipper located underneath the mattress. This makes it less convenient to remove the cover.
Of note: The latest version of Bloom River appears to have a white cover with a jacquard design and Bloom logo on the sidewall. Unfortunately, the cover composition was not listed on the product label for the mattress we reviewed or on the Sleep Country website for their latest version.
Juno Mattress Cover
Juno’s cover design is an homage to the iconic striped wool socks Canadians have worn for generations. The grey, white, and red pattern is made up of a soft blend of polyester and viscose. The Juno logo is stitched across the red stripe running across the mattress. Finally, there’s a zipper underneath the mattress that makes it possible for you to remove the cover if necessary for easier care and maintenance.
Bloom vs Juno: Environmental Sustainability
