Endy and Casper are two of the most well-known mattress brands in Canada, with both brands having built up a loyal customer base. So, what are the backgrounds of these two popular mattress lines?
Endy
Endy is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand owned by Sleep Country, Canada’s largest chain of mattress retail stores. The company has been selling its “one-size-fits-all” foam mattress since 2015, competing with other online brands like Casper and Douglas. Endy mattresses are made in Ontario and Quebec and shipped out from distribution centres in Ontario and British Columbia. In 2022, the company expanded its mattress lineup with the Endy Hybrid, a more firm version of their foam mattress mixing foam and coils.
Casper
Casper introduced their bed-in-a-box in 2014 by launching a single firmness, ‘one-size-fits-all’ mattress. The Casper mattress initially launched in the USA but has since expanded to Canada. Having received tens of millions of dollars of funding from the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Target Corporation, the Casper mattress quickly became the market leader in the bed-in-a-box space. Casper has since expanded its assortment to include the Element and the Wave.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Endy and Casper both use UPS to deliver their mattresses directly to customers’ doors throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home. As a result, shipping time for both brands are roughly the same, delivering within 10 days of purchase.
As with any other bed-in-a-box brands, Endy and Casper heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. Both brands offer a 100-night sleep trial, which is around the industry standard, though nearly a month less than other Canadian competitors like Octave and Douglas.
If a customer wishes to return their mattress within the sleep trial, both companies will arrange to pick the mattresses up and issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees for either the Endy or Casper mattress.

Both the Endy and the Casper mattress were delivered to us within the expected time frame. Each came well-protected by heavy-duty plastic within the boxes to protect the mattresses during shipping. The boxes for both mattresses were sealed with heavy-duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the packaging. To prevent potential harm to yourself or your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to open the box.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out of its cardboard packaging. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most practical to complete this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
The Endy and Casper were each protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic – an inner layer to keep it compressed in a vacuum seal, and exterior layers to maintain the tight cylinder shape through the shipping process. Customers will need to unwrap the outer layer of plastic in order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape into a flat, albeit compressed, form.
Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find where the outer layer of plastic begins and start peeling it back. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will rest unrolled before you.
Next, cut and remove the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will begin to decompress. A bed-in-a-box mattress should expand to its full height within a few minutes to a few days. The Endy mattress and the Casper both expanded to their full height within 3 minutes.

Endy and Casper are both combination foam mattresses. Both are available only in one firmness option, and each comes compressed, rolled, and shipped in a box.
Some of the major differences between the Endy mattress and the Casper are the different types of foam used for comfort and support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.
Also, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases the brand’s unique design aesthetic and personality. Top covers are sometimes washable. Out of the two mattresses tested, only the Endy has a machine-washable top cover.
Endy vs Casper Mattress Layers
Endy
Casper
Endy Mattress Layers
The Endy mattress contains three layers of foam:
- The first layer of the Endy mattress is 2” of Endy comfort foam. This layer is designed to provide optimal comfort and temperature performance.*
- The second layer of the Endy mattress is 3” of polyurethane foam. This layer works with the comfort layer to provide an additional level of support and will help conform to the body.
- The final layer of foam in the Endy mattress is 5” of polyurethane foam. This layer gives the Endy mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far.
*Endy does not provide density information for their top layer of foam. The second and third layer of the Endy mattress are both 1.8lbs/ft3.
Casper Mattress Layers
The Casper mattress contains four layers of foam:
- The first layer of the Casper mattress is 1.5″ of ‘open-cell’ polyurethane foam. This top layer is designed to provide comfort and heat-regulating performance.
- The second layer of the Casper mattress is 1.5″ of memory foam. This layer works with the first comfort layer to provide an element of support, will help conform to your body shape, and assist with pressure-point relief.
- The third layer of the Casper mattress is 1.5″ of zoned polyurethane foam. This layer acts as a transitional layer between the two comfort layers and the final support layer. This layer is ‘zoned,’ meaning the firmness varies under the shoulder and hip areas.
- The final layer of foam in the Casper mattress is 5.5” of support foam. This layer gives the Casper mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too deep.
- Casper does not provide density information for any of their layers of foam.
Endy vs Casper Mattress Cover
Endy
Casper
Endy Mattress Cover
The Endy mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part of the cover is a heavier-duty grey fabric, and the top part is white with a diamond-knit pattern. The top part of the cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of Lycra for stretch. Unlike other mattresses on the market, such as Douglas and Octave, Endy does not highlight eco-conscious fabric. The top portion of the Endy mattress can be unzipped and cleaned in the washing machine as necessary.
Casper Mattress Cover
The Casper mattress has a simple two-tone cover. The side fabric used on the Casper mattress cover is a heavy-duty, charcoal-coloured speckled fabric. This is a nice contrast to the sharp, stretchy, and white polyester and lycra top cover. The Casper mattress set the trend for the ‘less-is-more’ mattress aesthetic, and this approach to mattress design has been adopted by many new mattress brands, including Endy.
Endy vs Casper: Environmental Sustainability
GoodMorning.com Inc. carried out a survey in February 2017, discovering that almost 50% of Canadians are willing to spend more money for more environmentally friendly products. Should you buy the Endy or Casper?
If you are trying to decide between the Casper mattress or the Endy, you are in a unique position. Both are popular mattresses that have put a lot of effort into marketing their brands in the United States and Canada, respectively. Because of this, they should be considered more like starting points in the search for a better sleep, not necessarily the end purchase.
Both Casper and Endy are known for having a softer feel with considerable ‘hug.’ This will be the perfect option for some sleepers, but those who prefer a firmer mattress will want to look elsewhere. In terms of other ratings, our independent testing suggests both mattresses respond similarly overall.
Buy Endy if you want:
- A medium-firm feel
- Plenty of “hug”
- A Canadian-made mattress
Buy Casper if you want:
- A popular mattress brand
- A medium feel and firmness
- A product made in North America
