TEMPUR-Cloud: Fair Quality at Sky-High Prices
TEMPUR-Pedic is one of the industry’s most recognizable brands, with products available online and in most mattress stores across North America. However, the TEMPUR-Cloud can only be purchased online.
The TEMPUR-Cloud is TEMPUR-Pedic’s most affordable mattress option at $2,799 for a queen size—considerably more than many high-quality foam mattress options from competing brands like Octave. It comes in a range of sizes, not including a California king, all in one level of medium firmness.
TEMPUR-Pedic markets this mattress as having “up to 40% more pressure-relieving power than other compressed mattress brands.” Like many foam mattresses, the TEMPUR-Cloud should adapt to your body’s shape. However, a number of customers mention increased back and hip pain after sleeping on this mattress. These same reviews also include complaints of heat spots and temperature-related discomfort.
Due to the nature of TEMPUR material, the mattress will soften in warm temperatures and firm up in cold temperatures. TEMPUR-Pedic states that this firmness change is minor, but it may not be ideal if you’re looking for a consistently firm foam mattress.

First Impressions: Straight Out of the Box
The Arrival & Unboxing
The TEMPUR-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud is available through the brand’s Canadian and US websites. In Canada, FedEx provides free ground shipping from TEMPUR-Pedic’s warehouse in Mississauga, Ontario. The mattress should arrive within 5–7 days.
Instructions are included in the shipping bag for easier unpacking. Unroll the mattress in a large space, remove the wrapping, and wait around five minutes for it to decompress. The TEMPUR-Cloud can take up to 72 hours to reach its full size, depending on the room temperature.
The Look & Feel
The TEMPUR-Cloud has a soft white colour scheme with a charcoal-grey bottom. The top has a subtle textured pattern and curved indentations running along the mattress. The TEMPUR-PEDIC logo, mattress model, and firmness level are all visible on the bottom half of the mattress.
Some customers report an odour coming from their TEMPUR-Cloud that doesn’t go away over time. TEMPUR-Pedic says on their website that this is due to the foam cells opening and that the smell should be gone within a couple of days, but this isn’t every customer’s experience.
Official Test Results: How Do Engineers Rate the TEMPUR-Cloud?
The following results were determined by licensed 3rd-party engineers, commissioned by us:
To be able to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website, it was necessary to hire licensed 3rd-party engineers. Their independence and operating standards help to ensure the results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report is linked below and has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
*Be advised: Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.*
How Our Engineers Test Each Mattress:
Test Scores | TEMPUR-Cloud |
---|---|
Firmness: | 5.5 / 10 |
Edge support: | 8.5 / 10 |
Motion isolation: | 4.6 / 10 |
Bounce: | 3.6 / 10 |
Feel & Firmness
According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the TEMPUR-Cloud rates 5.5/10 on the firmness scale, giving it a slightly softer medium-firm feel. This may be best for side or back sleepers, or anyone who weighs 150 lbs or less.
Edge Support
Foam mattresses typically have weak edge support. The TEMPUR-Cloud earned an impressive 8.5/10 for its edge support, which is above average. You shouldn’t have any difficulties getting out of bed, or sleeping on the edge of your mattress.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation is usually better in foam mattresses than innerspring. According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the TEMPUR-Cloud scored 4.6/10 in motion isolation. This means sleepers may feel a small amount of movement from their partner, kids, or pets.
Bounce
Good motion isolation contributes to a lower bounce rating compared to mattresses that contain springs. According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), the TEMPUR-Cloud’s bounce score is just below average at a 3.6.

Mattress Layers
The TEMPUR-Cloud Medium has three foam layers and a 360-degree, non-removable stretch mattress cover.
- First Layer: TEMPUR® comfort layer, described as soft and responsive. Layer thickness and density is unspecified—according to their website’s chat feature, TEMPUR-Pedic doesn’t specifically measure density in their mattresses or other products.
- Second Layer: TEMPUR® support layer. This firmer layer adjusts to fit your body. Layer thickness and density is unspecified.
- Third Layer: The base layer is composed of premium foam. Layer thickness and density is unspecified.
The TEMPUR-Cloud also comes in a Medium Hybrid option. For an added fee, you can add 1,000+ individually wrapped premium coils between the support and base layers. TEMPUR-Pedic claims this improves edge support, reduces motion transfer, and allows for sound-free movement. However, the hybrid option is only available in the US.
(Interested in a high-end hybrid mattress at a lower price point? We think you’ll like Logan & Cove.)
Mattress Cover
The TEMPUR-Cloud has a 360-degree stretch mattress cover, which according to TEMPUR-Pedic promotes airflow, breathability, and moisture-wicking properties. However, some customers report heat retention in the material. The mattress cover is not removable or machine washable.
Brand Bio: What's the Story Behind TEMPUR-Pedic?
Company Overview TEMPUR-Pedic
Launched: 1992
BBB Rating: B- (Not Accredited)
Trustpilot Rating: Bad (Canada)
Ownership: Tempur Sealy International
Company HQ: Kentucky, USA
Where to buy: In-store and online
TEMPUR-Pedic was originally contracted to develop aircraft seat cushions for NASA. They used the resulting TEMPUR® material to launch mattress products for a wider commercial market. In 2012, TEMPUR-Pedic merged with the Sealy Corporation to combine resources and become the world’s largest bedding company.
TEMPUR-Pedic is often considered the gold standard in foam mattresses. But in recent years, brands like Octave and Douglas began manufacturing foam mattresses with nearly identical features, conveniently delivered in a box for nearly a third of the cost.
Delivery, Sleep Trial & Returns
Delivery, Trials, Returns TEMPUR-Cloud
Shipping cost: Free
Sleep trial length: 90 nights
Return ease: Return in-store or ship back yourself
Full refund: Yes
Additional fees: Return fee of $175 if you used free shipping
Ground shipping via FedEx is free for customers across Canada. The TEMPUR-Cloud is delivered to your door in a reusable bag, not in a box. TEMPUR-Pedic’s sleep trial comes with a condition—customers must sleep on the mattress for 30 nights before they can return or exchange it. If you don’t like the mattress, this leaves only 60 days in the 90-day trial period to return it.
Customer service is not always supportive, according to customer reviews. Many complaints aren’t covered by the product’s limited warranty, which largely seems to address manufacturer defects. This warranty is also void if you use an unapproved bed frame or box spring, or if you use the mattress directly on the floor.
At the time of writing this review, TEMPUR-Pedic has a B- rating on BBB and is not accredited. The company also has 1.2 stars on Trustpilot at the time of writing, with 92% of the 100+ reviews being one star. While the US site has nearly 12,000 one- to three-star reviews out of 63,000+, the Canadian site only displays a limited number of five-star reviews. This makes it difficult to see a wide range of customer experiences with the TEMPUR-Cloud.
If you successfully return your mattress, your full refund will be processed in 1–2 business days. However, you may have to pay a return fee of $175 if you received free shipping for the original purchase. And if you exchange your mattress for a new one, the product will continue under your existing warranty—it doesn’t come with a new warranty.

Final Thoughts On the TEMPUR-Cloud
TEMPUR-Pedic is a world-recognized sleep brand that’s often considered the gold standard for mattresses. It’s true that their products can provide a good night’s sleep for some customers, but it’s hard to determine if the benefits balance out the price tag.
The company paid a €15.5-million fine for vertical price fixing back in 2015, and their mattress prices are considerably higher than those of competitors—even for their least expensive product. For example, a Canadian-made Octave mattress is just $899 for a queen, compared to the TEMPUR-Cloud’s $2,799. Octave also offers a 365-night trial, rather than TEMPUR-Pedic’s 90-night sleep trial, and a 15-year comprehensive warranty instead of a 10-year limited warranty.
If you want more for your money, you might be better off spending less of it on a different mattress.
