Simba 5000: Underwhelming Features And Poor Edge Support
There are three models in Simba’s hybrid mattress line: the Simba 1500, the Simba 2500, and the Simba 5000 Pro Flex. Many would expect extraordinary performance and extra luxury features from Simba’s most expensive, upscale hybrid mattress.
However, the Simba 5000 significantly underperformed in edge support, especially for a hybrid. Compared to all-foam mattresses, hybrid mattresses are known for having exceptional edge support. If you sleep on the edge of your mattress or require more stability when getting out of bed, you’ll want to consider other options.
Simba has a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. These offerings are average at best when compared to more appealing offers by competitors in the crowded bed-in-a-box space. Simba does not issue refunds either. If you’re unhappy with your Simba mattress, you can only exchange it for another mattress at Sleep Country and pay a $65 CAD exchange fee. In comparison, Logan & Cove gifts sleepers peace of mind with full refunds and no additional return fees.
This mattress also loses its charm when considering added benefits. At $1,999 CAD for a queen, the Simba 5000 retails for significantly more than other premium hybrid brands like Logan & Cove ($999 CAD for a queen), who differentiate themselves with quality machine-washable covers and soy-infused bio foams, respectively.
If you want a high-end hybrid mattress with decent motion isolation, the Simba 5000 Pro Flex could be your sleep solution.
However, Canadians interested in enjoying exclusive features at a more attractive price should look elsewhere. We recommend taking a closer look at Logan & Cove. With Logan & Cove, you benefit from luxurious Canadian-sourced materials, up to $900 CAD in savings, extended trial and warranty periods, and the flexibility to choose your firmness level and personalize your sleep experience.

First Impressions: Straight out of the Box
The Arrival
Simba is available for purchase online and at Sleep Country. It can be delivered free of charge throughout most parts of Canada and typically ships within 3–10 business days.
The company instructs anyone living in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador, or any remote area to contact customer service for shipping options, as there may be a service fee of $120 CAD.
The mattress arrives in a large cardboard box that requires at least two people to move. The box does have handles that make it easier to carry.
The Unboxing
Like other boxed mattresses, Simba is simple to unbox. The company also includes a set of instructions to follow. Once out of its packaging, the mattress should fully expand within a few hours.
The Look
The Simba 5000 is a simple, attractive-looking mattress. Like other online brands, Simba has opted for a two-tone cover design, with a white knit top and grey woven base.
The Feel
The Simba 5000 feels more like a memory foam mattress than a spring hybrid. Unlike the classic spring and hybrid mattresses whose bottom support layers are formed by six to eight-inch springs, Simba’s micro-coils mainly help with pressure relief and ventilation.
Official Test Results: How Do Engineers Rate the Simba 5000?
The following results were determined by licensed 3rd-party engineers, commissioned by us:
To be able to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website, it was necessary to hire licensed 3rd-party engineers. Their independence and operating standards help to ensure the results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report is linked below and has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.
*Be advised: Mattress testing conducted outside of this professional standard poses a greater risk of validity errors or reviewer bias.*
How Our Engineers Test Each Mattress:
Test Scores | Simba 5000 |
---|---|
Firmness: | 4.2 / 10 |
Edge support: | 3.5 / 10 |
Motion isolation: | 7.4 / 10 |
Bounce: | 3.6 / 10 |
Feel & Firmness
The Simba 5000 offers a medium-firm feel. When tested by 3rd-party engineers (commissioned by us), it scored 4.2/10 in firmness.
The memory foam layer has some ‘hug,’ which will appeal to anyone looking for a plush yet supportive mattress. As weight is applied to the mattress, the memory foam slowly and gradually compresses into the lower layers, giving a slight sinking feeling.
Edge Support
Hybrid mattresses are popular among shoppers looking for a mattress with solid edges. A lack of structure at the sidewalls can cause problems for people who struggle to get out of bed.
The Simba 5000 ranked below average in edge support, scoring 3.5/10. Sleepers with limited mobility will want a mattress with more stability.
Motion Isolation
The Simba 5000 received an above-average motion isolation score during 3rd-party engineer testing (commissioned by us). The memory foam top layer absorbs movement at the surface, while the micro-coils compress individually to limit motion transfer.
At 7.4/10, Simba is a good option for couples or sleepers who share their beds with pets.
Bounce
Mattresses with memory foam typically receive low scores when testing for bounce. With a 3.6/10 score, the Simba 5000 has average bounce for a mattress with multiple layers of foam.

Simba 5000 Mattress Layers
The Simba 5000 is made up of five layers. Like other hybrid mattresses on the market today, the layers in this mattress work together to provide an overall level of comfort and support.
- First layer: 0.375 inches of hypoallergenic wool. This top layer helps with body temperature regulation and is a bonus feature that differentiates the Simba 5000 from other Simba hybrids.
- Second layer: 2.5 inches of graphite-infused memory foam. This layer provides comfort and contouring. Memory foam has a much higher degree of sinkage than a springier material like latex. Because memory foam tends to trap heat, Simba has added graphite flakes in the foam to help with temperature control. Foam density: Unspecified.
- Third layer: 2 inches of micro-coils. Simba’s coil layer helps with motion isolation. The hollow channels in the springs also aid in temperature regulation by improving airflow throughout the mattress.
- Fourth layer: 2 inches of high-density foam. This layer provides additional stability to the mattress and is reinforced at the perimeter for edge support. Foam density: Unspecified.
- Fifth layer: 7.125 inches of support foam. This bottom layer makes up the mattress’s foundation and keeps you from sinking too deep. It also includes horizontal air channels that divide the mattress into seven zones, promoting spinal alignment and pressure-point relief. Foam density: Unspecified.
Of note: Simba does not publicly disclose foam density. When Mattress-Reviews.com contacted Simba customer support, they could not provide the foam density for any of their layers.
Simba 5000 Mattress Cover
Simba’s top cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of elastane for stretch. Synthetic materials are less breathable than natural or plant-derived fibres like Tencel® or cotton.
Unlike other bed-in-a-box brands like Logan & Cove, Simba does not list any eco-conscious fabrics in their outer layer construction. While Simba promotes the top cover’s antimicrobial benefits, it is neither removable nor machine washable.

Though Simba’s parent brand has ties to the textile industry dating as far back as 1979, its tight-top mattress launched the company to prominence. The Simba 2500 mattress, as we know it today, launched in the UK in 2016. It quickly took off in Europe before being brought to Canada by Sleep Country. The European versions of this model are made in both the UK and Poland. In 2020, however, the brand moved manufacturing for all its Canadian orders from China to Canada.
Simba is a European product available worldwide. In Canada, Simba is available through Sleep Country. Because of its exclusive contract with Sleep Country, the retail chain’s support team manages Simba’s Canadian customer service.

FedEx delivered the Simba 5000 mattress we tested. Shipping is free for most Canadians except those living in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador. Customers can expect to receive their new mattress within 10 business days.
Sleep Country offers a 100-night comfort guarantee. The buyer can try out the mattress at home before deciding to keep it. At 100 nights, this sleep trial is average in length.
Due to their partnership with Sleep Country, Simba’s exchange policy is limited compared to many bed-in-a-box brands:
- A Simba mattress can only be exchanged for another mattress in Sleep Country’s catalogue. Customers must pay the difference if their new mattress is more expensive. If it is less expensive, customers will receive in-store credit.
- Customers who decide to return their Simba must also pay an exchange fee of $65 CAD to cover the delivery of a new item and removal of the returned mattress.
This approach to sleep trials and returns differs from mattress retailers like Logan & Cove, which offers a competitive 120-night sleep trial, full refunds, and free returns.

Final Thoughts
In Europe, Simba is an established name that can demand a premium price. It makes sense that Sleep Country would acquire the brand as part of its ongoing focus to compete with popular online mattress brands like Casper or Douglas.
If you like a thick mattress or prefer a plush feel, the Simba 5000 is a good option. It is a well-made mattress that uses quality materials. The graphite-infused foam, pocketed micro-coils, hypoallergenic wool layer, and above-average motion isolation are nice features that shoppers have come to expect from mattresses at that price point.
However, the Simba 5000 is missing the premium offerings that would truly give it an edge over top competitors, especially with its extravagant price tag. Despite paying $1,999 CAD for a queen, Simba customers cannot enjoy money-back guarantees, free returns, excellent edge support, or an industry-leading sleep trial.
If you’re looking for a luxury hybrid mattress, you may be better off with the Logan & Cove. Like the Simba 5000 Pro Flex, the Logan & Cove is a 14″ hybrid made with quality Canadian-sourced materials. However, unlike Simba, Logan & Cove has a 15-year warranty, a 120-night sleep trial, higher edge support scores, and hassle-free returns, all with hundreds of dollars to spare ($1,999 CAD vs $999 CAD for a queen).
