Can the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Be Sustainable and Satisfactory?
Silk & Snow has introduced their first organic mattress and it’s caught the eye of some eco-conscious shoppers. While we’re excited to see more companies choosing to use organic materials, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting a product that’s been sustainably produced and well received.
The latex and wool used to make the Silk & Snow Organic mattress are shipped in from Sri Lanka and New Zealand, respectively. While we can agree that using sustainable materials is an environmentally responsible decision, transporting them internationally beforehand might not be. Regardless, the next question that comes to mind is if wool and latex can offer the same performance and comfort as the tried-and-true (not to mention more affordable) memory foam mattress.
The Silk & Snow Organic mattress has a rigid, reinforced perimeter and a medium-firm centre. It scored a 7.3/10 for edge support and received a 6.7/10 for firmness. If you’ve shopped Silk & Snow before you might notice that this firmness rating is quite the leap from their foam mattress, which scored only 3.7/10.
As for price, a queen-sized Silk & Snow Organic mattress will cost you about $1,400. That’s a bit higher than other comparable hybrid mattress brands like Logan & Cove ($999).
Logan & Cove also received higher overall scores than the Silk & Snow Organic mattress. If you’d like some more insight into how the Silk & Snow Organic mattress may feel to you, have a look at the third-party engineered testing results (commissioned by us) below.

First Impressions: Straight Out of the Box
The Arrival
Silk & Snow is available for purchase online and is delivered free of charge throughout most of the US and Canada. However, shipping fees do apply to some remote locations. The mattress arrives in a cardboard box that requires two people to move. The box has perforated handles making it easier to carry. Although the box arrived with some minor punctures and discolouration, it survived the trip by being stapled and taped shut.
The Unboxing
Unboxing was a simple matter of tilting over the box and pulling the mattress out by grasping the two layers of plastic wrap surrounding it. Once the plastic wrap was removed, it took under five minutes for the mattress to expand.
The Look
The Silk & Snow Organic mattress has a white top and sidewalls with dark green trim. Unfortunately, even after providing ample time for the mattress to expand after unboxing, the cover had plenty of creases that never smoothed out.
The Feel
The pocket coil base provided an abundance of resiliency and bounce. Plus the rigid edge support allowed very little bowing, great for those who sit on the side of their bed often.
Official Test Results: How Do Engineers Rate the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress?
The following results were determined by licensed 3rd-party engineers, commissioned by us:
To be able to accurately rate and compare the performance of the mattresses reviewed on this website, it was necessary to hire licensed 3rd-party engineers. Their independence and operating standards help to ensure the results remain unbiased, valid, and reliable. Each mattress was evaluated using the same strict methodology to protect the overall integrity of the results. The full report is linked below and has been given the official stamp of approval from an APEGA-certified engineer operating under a strict ethical code of conduct.

How Our Engineers Test Each Mattress:
Test Scores | Silk & Snow Organic |
---|---|
Firmness: | 6.7 / 10 |
Edge support: | 7.3 / 10 |
Motion isolation: | 7 / 10 |
Bounce: | 7 / 10 |
Feel & Firmness
Silk & Snow lists the Organic as their firmest mattress. It received a 6.7/10 for firmness from our third-party engineered testing (commissioned by us). Lighter individuals may want to consider a softer mattress that they can sink into.
Edge Support
The Silk & Snow Organic mattress scored a 7.3/10 for edge support. This is above average compared to most mattresses. It has an extra-firm perimeter that prevents the mattress from flattening when pressure is applied. If you often find yourself sitting on the edge of the bed, the mattress’s reinforced structure may provide you with the support you’ve been looking for.
Motion Isolation
Although you might expect to feel every little movement across a mattress like the Silk & Snow Organic, it handles motion considerably well. It registered a 7/10 on our motion isolation test, which means you might not be bothered by your partner when they toss and turn during the night.
Bounce
Pocketed coils allow for plenty of bounce in the Silk & Snow Organic mattress. It scored a 7/10 in our testing, so you can expect a good amount of resiliency. A bounce score like this indicates that it will be easier to get up and shift around in bed.

Silk & Snow Organic Mattress Layers
The Silk & Snow Organic mattress contains four layers. The individual cushioning layers, with help from pocketed coils, create zones of both soft and firm support to promote spinal alignment.
- First layer: 1-inch wool quilt. This layer is added to give a softer feel and helps the mattress contour to your body.
- Second layer: 0.75 inches of latex. This layer is made using the Dunlop method, meaning it uses organic latex. There are holes added to this layer to promote air circulation for a cooler night’s sleep.
- Third layer: 1.75 inches of latex. Aside from depth, this second layer of latex is identical to the one above it.
- Fourth layer: Dense pocketed spring coils make up the bottom layer of this mattress. Soft coils are used on the outer thirds of the mattress and firmer coils in the middle third to promote spinal alignment. These coils provide support and limit motion transfer.
Silk & Snow Mattress Cover
Appearance aside, the Silk & Snow Organic mattress cover can be appreciated for its use of natural materials. The cover is GOTS Certified and made from Canadian-grown cotton. Granted, the cover is soft and breathable, but it is unfortunately not removable. This means that should anything spill on this mattress cover, it will require spot treatment cleaning as it cannot be machine washed.

Final Thoughts on Silk & Snow Organic
Although this mattress is made using organic materials, it still has some room to improve its carbon footprint. By the time the bed has reached your doorstep, the materials it’s made from have already made a trip across the ocean. This can effectively nullify some of the eco-conscious reasons why you might be shopping for an organic mattress in the first place.
The Organic mattress has a mix of soft and firm zones to promote spinal alignment. Even though the Silk & Snow Organic mattress offers a sustainable and supportive sleep, we found more value in higher-rated (and less expensive) eco-friendly alternatives like Logan & Cove.
