Overall Rating
The Nora mattress by Wayfair is a bed-in-a-box brand you’re likely to come across in your search. Selling their beds through the Wayfair’s online furniture website, Nora competes directly with other online budget mattresses in Canada and the U.S. This pits them against companies like Douglas and Casper in pursuit of customers who prefer the convenience of shopping online. The Nora mattress is made in China, retails at $1,040 CAD for a queen, and features a 100-night sleep trial. Customers who return the Nora mattress within the trial period are eligible for a full refund.
Firmness
The Nora mattress is available in one firmness option. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), it rates at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Mattress companies make a big deal about where there products are made. With Nora, you can see why. Wayfair is betting big on their in-house mattress venture.
A relatively new arrival to the booming bed-in-a-box scene, Wayfair imports their mattresses from China and sells the Nora directly to consumers through the company’s e-commerce platform. The abundance of low-cost labour typically results in great cost savings for North American companies who offshore manufacturing to China. However, unlike other Chinese-made mattress brands like Zinus or Bloom Earth, Wayfair prices their foam mattress in the same segment as more premium priced domestic competitors. Customer reviews and growing trust in the popular online shopping site could lead to continued growth for Nora and Wayfair’s mattress category. With a low manufacturing costs and little overhead selling through third parties, Nora’s higher margins might hold the seeds of their success, or else price them out of the budget segment.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Wayfair uses specialist logistics company UPS to deliver the Nora mattress directly to customers doors throughout most parts of Canada and the U.S. In some cases, the delivery can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home. Shipping is free for the majority of shoppers, and Nora customers can expect their new mattress to be delivered within 10 business days.
Like many bed-in-a-box companies, Wayfair heavily promotes Nora’s sleep trial. At 100 nights, this sleep trial is average in length. Wayfair offers free mattress pick-up and a full refund with returns.
It is worth noting that Mattress-Reviews.com did not complete the return process, but received this information via the product listings on Wayfair.com and Wayfair.ca.
Nora Mattress: Out of the Box
Out of the Box Nora

Box opening: Scissors required
Box/mattress fitting: Tight
Protection layers: 2
Expansion time: 24 hours
The Nora mattress was delivered to us within the estimated time frame. The mattress was well protected by heavy-duty plastic layers within the box to keep the mattress in good shape throughout shipping.
The Nora mattress box was sealed with tape. Customers might need scissors or a knife to open the box. To avoid harm to the mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to open the box.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most effective to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
The Nora mattress is protected by two layers – an inner layer to keep it compressed in a vacuum seal, and an outer layer to keep the mattress tightly rolled in a cylinder shape.
Customers will need to unwrap the outer layers in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress should be lying unrolled before you.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. With the Nora mattress, full expansion took about 24 hours.

The Nora is a combination foam mattress. By combining different foam types, densities, and firmness levels, Wayfair has designed a configuration that offers reasonable comfort, cooling, and support.
The Nora mattress is available only in one firmness, with Wayfair adopting the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach used by most bed-in-a-box companies.
Nora Mattress Layers
The Nora mattress contains four layers of foam. Like many of the combination foam mattresses on the market today, all layers in the Nora mattress work together to provide an overall level of comfort and support.
- First layer: 2” of gel-infused memory foam. This layer was created to provide optimal comfort and temperature performance.
- Second layer: 3” of gel-infused cooling foam. This soft support transition foam works with the comfort layer to provide an additional level of support and will help conform to your body shape. This layer also offers additional temperature regulation.
- Third and fourth layers: 3.5” of egg-crate support foam. These two bottom layers give the mattress its structure and prevent sleepers from sinking in too far.
Of note: Unfortunately, the density information for the layers is not available on the marketplace listings. Mattress-Reviews.com was unable to contact the Nora or Wayfair customer service representatives to obtain the densities of the layers.
Remember, higher-density foams generally have a longer life expectancy than their lower-density counterparts. Mattresses like Octave and Tempur-Pedic both contain higher-density memory foams.
Nora Mattress Cover
The Nora mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part of the cover is a heavier grey fabric, and the top part of the cover is white with a unique pattern. The mattress cover is both removable and machine washable, which aids in the cleanup of spills and messes.
We did not find any mention of organic or natural materials being used in the cover on the website or in the fabric content breakdown on the law label.
