Lucid Mattress Review (2024)
Disclaimer: We are owned and operated by GoodMorning.com. We hire 3rd-party engineers and use public data to rate mattresses on over 30 criteria that we believe are important. Overall Rating
Lucid mattress is one of the more well-known bed-in-a-box brands who sell their products primarily through Amazon. Owned by bedroom furniture retailer Linenspa, the Lucid mattress competes directly with another Amazon-focused brand, Zinus, and the Canadian-made Juno. As with the majority of the Amazon-focused brands, Lucid is made in China. A queen-size Lucid mattress currently goes for $600 CAD through Amazon, comes with a 30-night sleep trial, and can be returned for a full refund through Amazon.
NOTE: This mattress was purchased in 2017 and did not contain fiberglass. However, some Lucid mattresses manufactured after that date are known to contain fiberglass. If the law label on your mattress lists fiberglass, glass fibers, or a similar material in the mattress’s material list, do not remove the mattress cover.
Firmness
The Lucid mattress is available in one firmness option. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), this product is rated at 7.2 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Like a few other bed-in-the-box brands who believe the road to mattress riches runs through Amazon.com, Lucid has built an online brand focused on wooing the budget shopper. Since their mattresses are all manufactured in China, Lucid can sell their beds at relatively low costs. At these price points, customers are more likely to be concerned over the numbers on their receipts, rather than those in the foam density or specs columns.
This is not to suggest the Lucid mattress is poor quality, but it does not compare as well to the North American-made mattresses tested on Mattress-Reviews.com. Lucid’s low price is comparable to many other made-in-China foam mattresses like Zinus or Classic Brands.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Lucid uses specialist logistics companies like UPS to deliver the Lucid mattress directly to customers doors throughout Canada. In some cases, the delivery can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home. Shipping is free for Canadians, and Lucid customers can expect their new mattress to be delivered within 3 to 5 business days.
The Lucid mattress is also Amazon Prime eligible. If a customer is an Amazon Prime member, delivery can be as quick as next day. (However, be advised the expansion time for the Lucid mattress tested in this review is as much as three additional days after unpacking.)
The returns process for a Lucid mattress can be a little complicated. When contacted directly, the Lucid customer service team advised us that returns are as per the standard 30-day return policy on Amazon. However, for Lucid, the customer must bring the mattress to the carrier location handling the return. This means having to drive the box back to UPS.
It is worth noting that Mattress-Reviews.com did not complete the return process, but received this information via the product listings on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca, as well as by speaking to Lucid customer service representative over the phone.

Using an Amazon Prime membership, the Lucid mattress was delivered to us a day after purchase. The mattress was well protected by two layers of plastic within the box to keep the mattress in good condition during shipping.
Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. To prevent potential harm to the mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to open the packaging.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
The Lucid mattress is protected with two layers of plastic and customers will need to unwrap the first layer of plastic in order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape into a flat, albeit compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled mattress on to the designated bed frame, find the end of the outer layer of plastic, pull it loose, and use the momentum of pulling it with the rolled mattress to remove the outer layer. After completing this process, customers should see a folded and unrolled mattress. From here, simply unfold the mattress – the top cover will be facing up – and place the corners in the correct positions along the frame or foundation.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic and the Lucid mattress will begin decompressing. Remove this final layer of plastic and the mattress should expand to its full height. With the Lucid mattress, full expansion took 72 hours.

The Lucid is a combination foam mattress. By combining different foam types, densities, and firmness levels, Lucid has designed a configuration that offers reasonable comfort, cooling, and support.
The Lucid mattress is available in different height variants, as well as different firmness options. The Lucid mattress we tested in this review is the 10″ Gel Memory Foam Mattress.
Lucid Mattress Layers
The Lucid mattress contains two layers of foam. Like many of the combination foam mattresses on the market today, both layers in the Lucid mattress work together to provide an overall level of comfort and support.
- First layer: 2.5″ ventilated gel memory foam. This upper tier is perforated and designed to provide airflow, bounce, and comfort.
- Second layer: 7.5″ support foam. This bottom support layer gives the mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far.
Of note: Lucid does not disclose the density of the top gel memory foam layer on their website or on Amazon. Remember, mattresses that use higher-density foams like Octave and Tempur-Pedic will generally have a longer life expectancy than their lower-density counterparts. Octave mattresses, for instance, are made with a high-density support foam layer that acts as a durable base. This layer has five pressure-relief zones and air channels to provide full-body support and better air circulation.
Lucid Mattress Cover
The top cover of the Lucid mattress is a soft-patterned, breathable polyester and Tencel® blend. Lucid states that this specific version of the mattress has a removable, machine-washable top cover. However, given the presence of fiberglass in later models of this mattress, we recommend not removing the cover to be safe.
NOTE: The mattress we reviewed was purchased in 2017 and did not contain fiberglass. However, some Lucid mattresses manufactured after that date are known to contain fiberglass. If the law label on your mattress lists fiberglass, glass fibers, or a similar material in the mattress’s material list, do not remove the mattress cover.
Lucid Mattress: Environmental Sustainability
GoodMorning.com Inc. carried out a survey in February 2017, discovering that almost 50% of Canadians are willing to spend more money for more environmentally friendly products. Therefore, in every review on Mattress-Reviews.com, we will highlight each mattress company’s green philosophy, as well as how prominent their policies are on their websites.

Feel & Firmness
The Lucid we tested is a firm mattress. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Lucid mattress is rated at a 7.2 / 10 on the firmness scale. It does not have excessive ‘hug,’ and its two-layer foam design ensures there is no excessive sinkage.
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation in foam mattresses is usually very good and one of the main reasons couples make the switch from innerspring to memory foam. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), minimal motion transfer was detected with the Lucid mattress; it is rated at 6.8 / 10 on the motion isolation scale.
Edge Support
Foam mattresses are not known for their edge support; in fact, it is often one of the main topics brought up to mattress retailers from customers considering the move from innerspring mattresses to foam. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Lucid mattress is ranked well above average at 8 / 10 on the edge support scale.
Bounce
Due to the fact that motion isolation for foam mattresses is very high, bounce is usually very low. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Lucid mattress ranks at 3.1 / 10 on the bounce scale.

Who buys a Lucid mattress?
The Lucid is available at a very low price point. This could be a solid pick for first-time home buyers, students, children, or as a temporary mattress for spare bedrooms. At this low price point, the Chinese-made Lucid will does not come with some of the standard perks available with more expensive, Canadian-made beds-in-a-box.
In Canada, we recommend that shoppers check out Juno. Juno is a Canadian-made value mattress that offers a longer sleep trial, a medium-firm feel that suits a wide range of sleepers, and priced at just $499 for a Queen.
Buy Lucid if you want:
- A budget mattress
- A higher level of firmness
Consider Juno instead you want:
- A Canadian-made mattress
- A mattress with a balanced medium-firm feel
- A longer sleep trial
- Free pillow(s) and bedding with your purchase
- A mattress that doesn’t contain fiberglass
