Without further ado, our Kingsdown Mattress Review:

Kingsdown is a company that has found ways to modernize with the times without losing sight of its history as a luxury mattress brand. Originally founded in 1904 as The Mebane Bedding Company, the company eventually became a manufacturer with distributors and operations in multiple countries.
Today, Kingsdown has a number of mattress lines and models available for sale at various price points, many of which can be bought at stores like Leon’s and Sleep Country.
That said, the company is facing increasing competition from bed-in-a-box brands like Logan & Cove that ship directly to consumers. Logan & Cove offers a more robust sleep trial and warranty, plus luxury detailing, at just $999 for a queen size.

Kingsdown mattresses will have different delivery times depending on the retailer. The model used in this review – the Silent Partner Fontaine – was ordered at Sleep Country and delivered within the expected time frame.
Mattress retailers may choose to use their own delivery service to deliver Kingsdown mattresses. In these cases, it’s not unusual for companies to offer a “white glove” delivery service where the courier takes the mattress to the room you choose, places it on the bed frame you indicate, and then unwraps the packaging. Since not all companies who offer white glove delivery will remove the old mattress, buyers may still have to make arrangements prior to delivery.
Retailers who sell Kingsdown mattresses will take different approaches to the sleep trial and return process. Some companies, like Sleep Country, will offer a sleep trial or period during which customers are able to take the mattress home and try it out with the option to return it within a stated time frame. By the same token, however, some companies won’t offer a return policy at all.
Competing mattress brands that instead follow the bed-in-a-box business model often have more accommodating (and consistent) sleep trial and return policies. Logan & Cove, for instance, ships with a 365-night sleep trial and 15-year warranty. Mattresses like Kingsdown that aren’t sold under this business model have to work harder to stay competitive in the age of e-commerce.
Kingsdown Mattress: Out of the Box
Out of the Box | Kingsdown |

The Kingsdown Silent Partner Fontaine mattress is not delivered in a box. That being said, retailers may offer white glove delivery service either as part of the delivery fee or otherwise within the price of the mattress.

The Kingsdown Silent Partner Fontaine is a spring-and-foam hybrid mattress. Using a combination of memory foam and coils, this mattress offers a medium-firm feel.
In addition, the Silent Partner Fontaine mattress comes in just one firmness option. Although this mattress did not come in a box, it does follow the “one-size-fits-all” strategy taken by a lot of mattress companies.
Kingsdown Mattress Layers
The Kingsdown mattress we tested – the Silent Partner Fontaine – contains three layers of spring and foam. Combined, these layers form the construction of the mattress.
- First layer: 1-inch pillow-top that both shapes the mattress visually and makes it more comfortable to sleep on.
- Second layer: 3 inches of memory foam. This layer works with the layer above it to enhance comfort.
- Third layer: 9 inches of pocketed coils. These springs add firmness, stability, and support to the mattress. This model is rather unique in that it’s made up of two layers of 4.5-inch coils stacked on top of each other instead of a single row of 9-inch coils.
Of note: Additional layers, particularly below the spring layer, are a part of the construction of this mattress. These combined with the quilting on the mattress account for the Kingsdown Silent Partner Fontaine’s 13.5-inch height.
Kingsdown Mattress Cover
Like many high-end mattresses, this Kingsdown mattress has a white pillow-top which with a textured pattern. Accented by black edging, the pillow-top gives way to a thinner, more breathable fabric. Further down, the sides of the mattress follow a dotted triangle pattern with circle stitching. The material of the cover blends viscose (64%) and polypropylene foam (36%). Although certain mattress covers are machine washable, this Kingsdown mattress cover is spot-clean only.
Kingsdown Mattress: Environmental Sustainability
GoodMorning.com Inc. carried out a survey in February 2017, discovering that almost 50% of Canadians are willing to spend more money for more environmentally friendly products. Therefore, in every review on Mattress-Reviews.com, we will highlight each mattress company’s green philosophy, as well as how prominent their policies are on their websites.

Final Thoughts on Kingsdown Silent Partner Fontaine
As a brand, Kingsdown has sought to establish itself over the years as an ideal pick for shoppers who want a higher quality sleep experience and are willing to pay for it. With this manufacturer, buyers can expect a firm and supportive mattress with a simple, clean-cut design.
That being said, the Kingsdown mattress we tested for this review had below-average edge support and bounce scores. This combination may raise questions about the mattresses functional nature. When the lack of firmness options and the shorter warranty period are also taken into account, prospective buyers may want to explore their options before committing to this mattress.
Though the mattress’s price may vary according to individual retailers, we feel that Kingsdown Silent Partner Fontaine doesn’t offer enough value for consumers.
Consider a hybrid mattress that offers luxury quality without the luxury price tag. Logan & Cove Choice costs just $999 for a queen size, and comes with cooling nanofibre cover, cooling gel, and five-zone full-body support. With a 15-year warranty and 365-night sleep trial, Logan & Cove offers you far more value—and peace of mind—for a lower price.
Buy a Kingsdown if you want:
- A medium-firm hybrid mattress
- To purchase from a well-established brand
- A mattress with above-average motion isolation
- A mattress made in North America
