Haven Lux Hybrid is available for purchase online and is delivered free of charge throughout most parts of Canada. Shipping fees do apply for some remote locations. The mattress arrives in a cardboard box that requires two people to move. However, the box does have handles that make it easier to carry. Haven LUX Hybrid typically ships within 1–5 business days. 

The Unboxing

Haven LUX Hybrid is simple to unpack. Once out of the box, the mattress needs to be removed from its protective plastic layers. The unwrapped mattress should fully expand within a few hours.

The Look 

Haven LUX Hybrid has a typical pillow-top hybrid mattress design. The quilted pillow-top is white, while the base section is a woven dark-grey fabric. Sky-blue accents line the edges of the mattress. The Haven Mattress Co. logo is stitched sideways to the sidewall.

The Feel 

The Haven LUX Hybrid Classic Plush has a similar medium-firm feel found on many hybrid mattresses. Lying down on the mattress, the pillow-top layer cushions and supports the body with a moderate amount of sinkage. Haven recommends this version of LUX Hybrid for front, back, and combination sleepers. If you’re mainly a side sleeper or prefer a softer mattress, Haven also offers a Classic Plush + Softer Zoned version.

Haven LUX Hybrid Mattress Layers

While preparing this review, we discovered that the layers of the Haven LUX Hybrid mattress were arranged in a different order than what is currently advertised on the company’s website. More details below.

Haven LUX Hybrid contains six layers. The individual layers work together to provide a good balance of comfort and support.

• First layer: 0.5 inches of open-cell bio foam. This first layer provides initial softness and cushioning when you lie down on the mattress. Foam density: Unspecified.

• Second layer: 1 inch of latex and copper foam. This springy Talalay latex layer is what gives Haven LUX Hybrid its moderately bouncy sleep surface. The added copper acts as a conductive material to help with temperature regulation by pulling heat away from the surface of the bed. Foam density: Unspecified.

• Third layer: 1 inch of cool-gel memory foam. The slow sink from the memory foam provides a moderate degree of contouring. The open-cell structure of the foam also helps to move air through the mattress to avoid overheating. Foam density: Unspecified.

• Fourth layer: 1 inch of open-cell foam. This layer is what differentiates the two firmness options. The Classic Plush version has a consistent firmness throughout the entire layer. Whereas the Classic Plush + Softer Zoned version has a middle portion that is softer for shoulders and hips. NOTE: According to Haven, this open-cell foam is supposed be a transition layer below the micro-coils. Foam density: Unspecified.

• Fifth layer: 1 inch of micro-coils. This layer is designed to help with contouring and supporting the body’s weight on the mattress. NOTE: According to Haven, these micro-coils are supposed be above the open-cell transition layer foam.

• Sixth layer: 10 inches of pocketed coils. The individually wrapped coils make up the main support layer of the mattress, as well as helping to reduce motion transfer. The outer perimeter of the pocketed coils are encased in 4 inches of support foam. This rigid foam is usually added to prevent excess sinkage at the edges of the pillow-top.

Haven LUX Hybrid Mattress Cover

Haven LUX Hybrid’s top cover is made from a bamboo blend designed to wick away moisture and improve breathability. This is helpful for temperature regulation because body heat is less likely to become trapped under the surface. The top cover is plush and soft to the touch. 

Unlike their all-foam Rejuvenate model, Haven LUX Hybrid’s cover is NOT machine washable and cannot be removed. To spot-clean spills or stains, Haven recommends scrubbing with water and a mild detergent.

Shoppers who want to be able to easily clean and care for their mattress might want to purchase a waterproof mattress protector, which Haven offers at prices starting at $79.

Haven Sleep Co. launched in Canada in 2016. Over the years, the company has expanded its catalogue to include five mattress styles, bedding, pillows, and bed bases.

Haven mattresses have been featured on HGTV Canada shows like Love It or List It and Island of Bryan.

Haven donates one mattress for every 10 mattresses sold. Many online mattress brands donate any returned mattresses that are clean and undamaged to charity. Haven’s website states that returned mattresses are recycled. 

Haven uses FedEx to deliver their mattresses throughout Canada. Shipping is free, but customers in Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut will be charged a fee. Customers can expect to receive their new mattress within 10 business days.

Like many bed-in-a-box companies, Haven promotes its 100-night comfort guarantee. This is when the buyer can try out the mattress at home before deciding to keep it. At 100 nights, this sleep trial is average in length, though still over two weeks shorter than what is offered by companies like GoodMorning.com.

Haven offers free mattress pickup and a refund for the cost of the mattress upon collection. However, customers in remote, rural, or Northern areas may need to deliver their unwanted mattress to an approved charity or to the factory of origin in order to complete a return or exchange.

It is worth noting that Mattress-Reviews.com did not complete the return process but received this information via the FAQ section on Haven’s website.

Let’s start with the positives for Haven LUX Hybrid. This mattress’s 6 layers and diverse use of materials (bamboo-infused cover, perforated latex, cooling gel, micro-coils, etc.) makes it an enticing option among Canadian online mattress brands. According to our testing, Haven LUX Hybrid also has a medium-firm feel that should be comfortable for many sleepers.

Now for the negatives. Haven LUX Hybrid has the same problem among many other luxury mattresses: a high price with questionable payoff. At $1,850 (for a queen), Haven LUX Hybrid is several hundred dollars more than other comparable hybrid mattresses.

Furthermore, Haven LUX Hybrid’s edge support rating is perplexingly low (3.2 / 10). One of the reasons people might choose a hybrid mattress is for its secure edge support, so this could be a deal-breaker for many shoppers.
