At 3X the Price of Other Leading Online Mattresses, Is It Time to Ghost the Casper Wave Hybrid?
Pain management and back support are top priorities for plenty of mattress shoppers today. While you may find some relief with the Casper Wave Hybrid mattress, you might experience a stinging sensation when you reach for your wallet. The Wave Hybrid Mattress will set its Canadian buyers back a staggering $3,995 CAD for a queen-size. That number jumps to $4,495 CAD for customers who opt for the Snow Technology cooling upgrade.
High prices don’t always mean poor value, though. What counts is the value you get out of every dollar. So what types of perks await those who are willing to pay Casper’s lofty price? The Wave Hybrid offers zoned firmness with the help of its unique supportive gel pods. They’re placed under your waist and lower back to prevent sinking and promote spinal alignment. This mattress also boasts a total of five inner layers, many of them perforated to help dissipate heat and keep you cool throughout the night.
Despite having five layers, the Casper Wave Hybrid has surprisingly little edge support The edges sink more than most mattresses when pressure is applied, scoring only 2.9/10 for edge support in our engineered testing. That means if you’re someone who sits on the edge of the bed often, you may want to sit this one out.
The Casper Wave scored a 6.3/10 for firmness, which is in the same realm as other five-layer luxury mattresses. For example, the Logan & Cove medium-plush mattress scored a 6.3/10 for firmness as well but received a much higher rating for edge support. Another benefit to exploring Logan & Cove is that they offer a medium-firm mattress option as well, which scored a 7.7/10 for firmness. Perhaps the most important factor to consider when determining value, though, is price.
The queen-size mattress from Logan & Cove is less than one-third the price of the Casper Wave ($999 CAD vs $3,995 CAD). It’s earned an impressive 4.7/5 star rating and has nearly four times the amount of online reviews as the Wave Hybrid. So while it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish high quality from high prices, it’s easier to see where dollar value and reliability meet here.

How Our Engineers Test Each Mattress:
Test Scores | Casper Wave Hybrid |
---|---|
Firmness: | 6.3 / 10 |
Edge support: | 2.9 / 10 |
Motion isolation: | 6.9 / 10 |
Bounce: | 5.4 / 10 |
Feel & Firmness
With a score of 6.3/10, the Casper Wave Hybrid mattress tests as a medium-firm mattress. There’s plenty of support in this mattress, from a reinforced memory foam layer to roughly 80 gel pods inserted above the spring base. This type of zoned support provides additional firmness below your waist and lower back, encouraging spinal alignment.
Edge Support
Edge support is an area where the Casper Wave could use some improvement. It scored a 2.9/10 in that category. Shoppers who sit on the edges of their mattresses may find themselves sinking in more than they’d expect. This means you might not experience the same “hug” as you would from a mattress with firmer edges and a softer centre.
Motion Isolation
The Casper Wave does a fair job at absorbing movement. It scored a total of 6.9/10 in the motion isolation category. While the edges are soft and will dampen some movement, the firmer centre of the mattress is a little less effective at isolating motion. You may notice more motion transference across the areas where gel pods have been inserted.
Bounce
With the help of its spring base and reinforced centre layers, the Casper Wave has a fair amount of bounce. It scored a 5.4/10 in our engineered testing, showing some flexibility when a medicine ball was dropped on top of it. This resiliency will make shifting around in bed a lot easier than if it had less bounce.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Layers
The Casper Wave hybrid mattress contains five layers. It features both foam and spring layers as well as a unique gel pod layer.
- First layer: This layer is made of perforated foam and has a thin coating of cooling gel.
- Second layer: A layer of foam with thousands of drilled holes to let out body heat.
- Third layer: Another layer of foam but with zoned support. It has softer areas under the shoulders and firmer sections around the hips.
- Fourth layer: The fourth layer of the Casper Wave Hybrid mattress contains gel pods. The pods form two rows of added firmness below the waist and lower back.
- Fifth layer: The bottom layer consists of pocketed spring coils. This layer provides some extra bounce and durability to the mattress.
Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Cover
The Casper mattress cover is made from a fabric blend of cotton and polyester, sourced from recycled plastic bottles. The cover is not removable or machine-washable. In the case of a spill or stain, the cover can be spot-cleaned. A breathable mattress protector from Casper could help but would result in another $200 or so added to your bill.

Casper was one of the early bed-in-a-box brands to garner attention in North America. Thanks to a sizable marketing budget and past celebrity ownership and investment, the Casper mattress is often the first online mattress that people recognize. Since launching in 2014, however, dozens of competitors have managed to chip away at the trendy brand’s prominence by offering more specialized options, a lower price point, or a combination of the two.
Headquartered in the United States, Casper has expanded its product catalog to offer a variety of mattresses, bedding accessories, and home decor items. Despite receiving millions of dollars in funding from the Target Corporation and celebrities like Ashton Kutcher, Casper reported significant losses on revenue in 2020.
In 2021, Casper Sleep Inc. announced that it had entered into an agreement to be acquired by Durational Capital Management. Two years later, in 2023, Sleep Country Canada announced that it had completed the acquisition of all the Canadian assets of Casper Sleep Inc.

Final Thoughts on the Casper Wave Hybrid
Choosing the right mattress can be a big decision. That doesn’t mean that it has to be a big investment, though. The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress has plenty to offer in terms of cooling and support. However, its offerings seem to dwindle in light of its price, especially when compared to similar-quality luxury mattresses.
Due to its brand awareness, shoppers might be more familiar with Casper than some other online mattress brands. Casper has spent a lot of money on attractive and “trendy” ads to appeal to customers looking for a new mattress. Before you make a commitment that will impact your sleep for the next seven to ten years (or more), you may want to do some research into the other options available to you.
One of the more prominent competitors to take note of is Logan & Cove. They offer luxury mattresses similar to the Casper Wave Hybrid for less than one-third of the price. Logan & Cove also offers 5 more years of warranty than Casper and has multiple firmness options for you to choose from. So when it comes to choosing a new luxury mattress, remember that value is not always determined simply by price.
