Feel & Firmness
Mattress firmness is a matter of personal preference. Most people are drawn to medium-firm mattresses because they have a good balance of support and cushioning for all sleep styles. However, different factors will determine which mattress is best for you. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the firmness and feel of Silk & Snow, Endy, and Douglas are very different.
- At 3.7 / 10, Silk & Snow is considered a medium-soft mattress. The surface has a fair amount of hug, giving the feeling that you are snuggly resting in the bed. Shoppers looking for a softer mattress that they can sink into may be interested in Silk & Snow.
- At 7.4 / 10, Endy is a medium-firm mattress that borders on firm. Its bottom two layers are slightly firmer to keep sleepers from sinking much beyond the two-inch top layer.
- At 6.6/10, Douglas is considered a classic medium-firm mattress. Sleepers will find that the foam conforms nicely to the body as they settle into bed. However, there is minimal sinkage thanks to a thick motion-isolating support layer. Douglas promotes gentle contouring while still maintaining proper spinal alignment for all sleep styles.

Edge Support
Foam mattresses are not known for their edge support; in fact, it is often one of the main issues customers have when moving from innerspring mattresses to foam. A lack of stability at the sidewalls can cause problems for sleepers who struggle to get out of bed. People with limited mobility may want a mattress with better edge support. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), Silk & Snow, Endy, and Douglas edge support rankings are very different.
- Silk & Snow has average edge support. It is rated at 5.2 / 10 on the edge support scale.
- Endy has below-average edge support. It is rated at 3.9 / 10 on the edge support scale.
- Douglas has above-average edge support, especially for an all-foam mattress. It is rated at 7.3 / 10 on the edge support scale. If you require stronger edge support, Douglas would be a great option.

Motion Isolation
Motion isolation in foam mattresses is usually very good and one of the main reasons couples make the switch to foam mattresses. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Silk & Snow, Endy, and Douglas motion isolation scores are all above average.
- At 7.6 / 10, Silk & Snow has a comparable motion isolation score to other foam mattresses in its category. Because of its plush memory foam sleep surface, Silk & Snow should be suitable for most sleepers.
- With a 6.6 / 10, Endy should provide adequate motion isolation for many sleepers. The all-foam design does help with motion transfer across the sleep surface, but Endy did have the lowest score of the three mattresses tested.
- Douglas is the clear winner when it comes to motion isolation. Thanks to a thick support zone and responsive transition layer, sleepers will experience little-to-no motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other. Douglas received the highest motion isolation score of any all-foam mattress tested by the third-party engineers (commissioned by us), with a superior score of 8.3 / 10.

Bounce
Because motion isolation is often so good for foam mattresses, they typically have very minimal bounce. Light sleepers generally prefer mattresses with very little bounce because they feel less motion transfer from their sleep partner moving or getting out of bed. Silk & Snow, Endy, and Douglas mattress bounce scores are all below average.
- Silk & Snow scored 2.9 / 10 for bounce, which is standard for a thicker, medium-soft mattress with lots of hug.
- At 4.7/10, Endy is pretty typical in terms of bounce for an all-foam mattress but slightly bouncier than Silk & Snow and Douglas.
- Douglas has below-average bounce. It’s rated at 3.2 / 10, so sleepers should experience almost no bounce from Douglas.

Mattress Layers
Silk & Snow
Endy
Douglas
Silk & Snow Mattress Layers
- First layer: 2 inches of high-density gel memory foam. This top layer aids in preventing pressure points while letting you sink into the mattress.
- Second layer: 2 inches of transition foam. This transition layer serves double duty by reinforcing the motion isolating qualities of the mattress and adding to the layer’s support properties below.
- Third layer: 6 inches of support foam. This bottom layer makes up the mattress’s foundation, providing the overall integrity of the bed and keeping you from sinking in too deep into the lower layers of the mattress.
Endy Mattress Layers
- First layer: 2 inches of Endy Comfort Foam. This layer of polyurethane is intended to provide comfort and temperature control. It has an open-cell structure, which is common for modern foam mattresses. However, unlike Silk & Snow or Douglas, Endy does not have cooling gel in its top layer for added temperature regulation.
- Second layer: 3 inches of polyurethane foam. The transition layer provides an additional level of support. This layer is what gives Endy a slightly firmer feel despite having such a soft sleep surface.
- Third layer: 5 inches of polyurethane support foam. This final tier gives the mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking too deeply.
Douglas Mattress Layers
- First layer: 2” of cooling gel foam. Douglas’ proprietary ecoLight® foam is lighter and less carbon-intensive than conventional memory foams. The cooling gel won’t retain heat and circulates air freely throughout the mattress.
- Second layer: 2” of Elastex® foam. This transition layer provides spring and support. Many mattresses use latex for similar reasons. The synthetic Elastex® foam is free of the allergy-causing chemicals found in latex.
- Third layer: 6” Motion-Isolation foam. Finally, more than half of Douglas’ height comes from this layer. The density of the foam almost entirely eliminates motion transfer, so you will sleep soundly, even if your bedmate tosses and turns all night long.
Of note: The foam used in Douglas’ comfort layer weighs less than traditional high-density memory foam (which starts at 4 to 5 lbs/ft3). It uses 40% less carbon input in its manufacturing as compared to conventional memory foam. (*Tested to ASTM D3574-I3 Procedure C, against 4-lb memory foam.) The lighter material has a positive impact on the environment in the form of a lower carbon footprint while still providing the same tactile benefits of denser foam.
Mattress Cover

Silk & Snow Mattress Cover
The top portion of the Silk & Snow cover can be unzipped, removed, and cleaned in the washing machine. Though the company’s website does not list a fabric content breakdown, the law label on the mattress lists both polyester and cotton among the general contents of the mattress itself.
Silk & Snow promotes its antimicrobial mattress cover (materials undisclosed) which is said to help prevent the growth of many types of bacteria. This added feature may be of use to customers who do not plan on using a mattress protector; however, the company’s return policy cites that all products must have no stains, soiling, or odours to be eligible for returns.
Endy Mattress Cover
Endy’s top cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of elastane for stretch. Like Silk & Snow and Douglas, Endy’s top cover can be removed and cleaned in the washing machine as necessary.
Douglas Mattress Cover
The plant-derived CoolSense® cover is made from sustainable Tencel® fibres that draw moisture away from the surface. The cover’s natural breathability also helps to improve air circulation throughout the mattress layers. When it comes to care and general upkeep, the machine-washable top cover has a 360° zipper for easy removal.
How to clean the removable top cover:
- Unzip the upper portion of the cover;
- Put in the washing machine on a gentle cycle;
- Tumble dry on low or air dry.

Silk & Snow, Endy, and Douglas are all three-layer, single-firmness foam mattresses. Each are available for purchase online and have convenient, boxed delivery throughout Canada. Canadian shoppers familiar with bed-in-a-box mattresses are likely to have heard of Endy and Douglas, which are the market leaders and have amassed a fairly large following and customer base north of the border.
Silk & Snow is a small North American bed and bath company. They entered the bed-in-a-box market after completing a Kickstarter campaign in 2017, releasing their first memory foam mattress. Since launching, the company has released two more mattresses: the Silk & Snow Hybrid and the Silk & Snow Organic. In 2022, the company expanded its home product assortment by releasing a line of bath products.
Endy launched in 2015 before being bought out by Sleep Country three years later. All Endy mattresses are made in Quebec and shipped to Canadian addresses from distribution centres in Ontario and British Columbia. In recent years, Endy has expanded its product categories from a single mattress to offering bedding, accessories, and pillows.
Douglas was introduced in 2017 by Canadian bed-in-a-box company GoodMorning.com. Douglas was manufactured as a single-firmness mattress, designed using eight years' worth of engineering data and customer feedback. GoodMorning.com designed the Douglas to be a value-packed, Canadian-made mattress at an unheard-of low price. They offer the same level of customer service for the Douglas as they do across their growing catalogue, along with a 365-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty.

Summary
At first glance, Silk & Snow, Endy, and Douglas seem to have a lot in common, especially when it comes to convenience and cost savings. However, Douglas is the only brand out of the three with a made-in-Canada queen-size mattress for under $800 that comes with a free mattress protector and a 20-year warranty. If you are looking for quality sleep at a great price, Douglas is hard to beat.
Endy and Douglas are both medium-firm mattresses, which typically appeal to the widest range of customers. Silk & Snow is noticeably softer when compared to the other two brands, and should work well for shoppers in the market for a plush and enveloping sleep surface.
Silk & Snow, Endy, and Douglas all offer good motion isolation, making them a safe purchase for couples. Douglas received top marks for motion isolation during the third-party engineer tests (commissioned by us) and outperformed the other two brands in terms of edge support. If these comfort features are important to you or your sleep partner, you may want to take a closer look at Douglas (read the full review).
Finally, customers who choose to purchase a Douglas mattress over Silk & Snow or Endy will enjoy a lengthier warranty, with 20 years of coverage to ensure customers enjoy a good night’s sleep for longer.
