Get More Cooling Comfort for Under $1,000 with Octave
Octave and Sealy are two well-known mattress brands sold in Canada. Both offer memory foam mattresses with cooling features, pressure relief, and zoned support. However, that’s where the similarities end. We compared Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione with Octave Vista, and Octave Vista emerged as the winner.
Octave mattresses are engineered using advanced cooling features for next-level coolness and comfort. The entry-level Octave Vista (accessibly priced at only $899 CAD for a queen) has cooling features like:
- A CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover
- Heat-dissipating copper-infused memory foam infused with phase-change material
- Multi-zone support foam with built-in air channels for better air circulation
Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione costs three times more than Octave Vista. Priced at $3,299 for a queen, Chill Trio Dione has only two cooling features: a cooling mattress cover and a top layer of liquid gel memory foam. Memory foam is known for trapping heat unless it has advanced cooling features to balance temperatures, like Octave. Since Sealy doesn’t have these features, you can expect overheating with this mattress.
Chill Trio Dione also comes with less value than Octave Vista. Sealy offers a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty, while Octave’s sleep trial is nearly 4x as long at 365 nights. Octave also provides a 15-year warranty, which is a full five years longer than Sealy’s.
Finally, Chill Trio Dione doesn’t have enough customer reviews on third-party sites to assess whether this mattress is worth the cost. Sleep Country’s website shows only double-digit reviews, with none more recent than late 2022. In addition, Sealy has a poor online reputation, with a “B-” rating on Better Business Bureau and a “Poor” rating on Trustpilot. In comparison, Octave has an excellent online reputation, with an “A+” BBB rating and an “Excellent” Trustpilot rating.
Comparing Sealy vs Octave, only Octave provides advanced cooling and exceptional value at an affordable price.
Consider Sealy if you want:
- A mattress from a well-known brand
- A 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year limited warranty
- Good edge support and motion isolation
- Zoned support and targeted pressure relief
- A mattress that’s suitable for side, back, and stomach sleepers
Buy Octave if you want:
- A 365-night risk-free sleep trial and a 15-year warranty
- A queen-size mattress for under $900
- Multiple cooling features, including copper-infused memory foam and phase-change material
- Multi-zone support, cushioning, and pressure relief
- A mattress that’s ideal for side, back, and stomach sleepers
- A machine-washable cooling cover
- Free shipping, returns, and pickups in major metro areas
- To buy from a company with an “A+” BBB rating and an “Excellent” Trustpilot rating
- A free sleep bundle that comes with a cotton sheet set, mattress protector, pillow protector(s), and pillow(s)

Sealy and Octave are both well-known mattress brands available in Canada. Sealy has a 140-year history, while Octave carries on the legacy of its former brand: Novosbed. So, what are the backgrounds of these two mattress lines?
Sealy
Sealy began in 1881 when cotton gin builder Daniel Haynes began making cotton-filled mattresses. The company survived the Great Depression, and in 1950 partnered with orthopedic surgeons to design the Posturepedic line of mattresses for improved back support. Today, Sealy is part of Tempur-Sealy, the world’s largest bedding company.
For years, Sealy was the gold standard in foam mattresses. More recently, Canadian brands like Octave are manufacturing foam mattresses with the same or better features, and delivering them directly to consumers’ doors for a fraction of the cost of a Sealy.
Octave
Octave is the next step in the evolution of the Novosbed mattress. The Vista, Mirage, and Horizon models are designed to enhance the Canadian sleep experience and provide greater cooling, motion isolation, and pressure relief than the popular Novosbed.
The Octave brand is owned by GoodMorning.com. This direct-to-customer mattress company has sold over 350,000 mattresses across the United States and Canada in the last 10 years. GoodMorning.com maintains an A+ rating on Better Business Bureau and an “Excellent” rating on Trustpilot.

It’s more convenient than ever to order a mattress online and get it delivered to your front door. You don’t even have to be home to accept it. A bed-in-a-box makes it easy to try a mattress at home and make sure it’s right for you. Here’s what the delivery process looks like for a Sealy mattress compared to an Octave mattress.
Sealy
Sealy mattresses are delivered by Sleep Country in major metropolitan areas. Sleep Country will ship your mattress in 3–5 business days, but the company does not deliver on weekends. Orders over $75 (before taxes) ship for free. There are some exceptions, though. Expect to pay a $120 shipping surcharge if you live in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, or Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Sealy mattress arrives wrapped in two layers of heavy-duty plastic. It’s already full size, so there’s no expansion time required. However, this means you might find it more difficult to move to the desired room in your home.
Sleep Country’s 100-night sleep trial is average for the mattress industry, but its terms are more restrictive. There are no refunds. You can only exchange the mattress for a different one, with a $65 exchange fee. You also won’t get a refund for the difference if you choose a lower-priced mattress, and you will need to pay the difference for a higher-priced mattress.
In addition, Sleep Country will not pick up the mattress if you want to return it. You have to bring the mattress back to a Sleep Country store yourself, no matter where you live.
Octave
Octave uses FedEx to deliver mattresses by ground throughout most parts of Canada. Orders arrive in 3–10 days. Shipping is free and your mattress is delivered directly to your door. If you live in a remote location, FedEx may transfer your package to a local courier for delivery. Additional shipping costs may apply in this situation.
Octave arrives in a recycled cardboard box and is wrapped in two layers of heavy-duty recycled plastic for added protection. Once unrolled, the Octave mattress fully expands in a couple of minutes and is ready to sleep on the same day it’s delivered.
Octave heavily promotes its risk-free, 365-night sleep trial. This is one of the longest sleep trials in Canada—more than three times as long as Sealy’s 100-night sleep trial. Unlike Sleep Country, Octave will pick up your mattress for free if you return it during the sleep trial period, and the company provides a full refund.

Both the Octave and Sealy mattress were delivered to us within the expected timeframe. Octave Vista shipped in a white cardboard box, while the Sealy mattress was wrapped in two layers of heavy-duty plastic. You can recycle Octave’s cardboard box, but keep the plastic for both mattresses. This will allow for easier returns—or exchanges only, in Sealy’s case.
Sealy
The Sealy mattress is not a mattress-in-a-box, so it’s shipped to you already fully expanded. It’s protected by two layers of heavy-duty plastic. You can choose between Sleep Country’s standard delivery or the upgraded Green Glove Delivery, which includes setup of the new mattress and removal of the old mattress, along with any packaging.
Octave
The Octave mattress box was sealed with heavy-duty tape. You will need scissors or a knife to open the packaging. To prevent potential harm or damage to the new mattress, be extra careful when using sharp objects to open the box.
The compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a “tip-and-pull” motion to slowly slide the mattress out of its cardboard packaging. Tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, then pull the box away from the bundled mattress. It’s best to do this in the room where you plan to use the mattress.
Place the rolled-up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find where the outer layer of plastic begins and start peeling it back. Use the momentum of unrolling the mattress along the bed frame to help remove this layer.
Finally, cut and remove the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal is now broken, and the Octave mattress will begin to decompress. The Octave Vista should reach its full height in a few minutes and is sleep-ready on the day it’s unpacked. The mattress will completely decompress within a few days.

The Octave Vista and the Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione are both cooling memory foam mattresses, available in Canada in one firmness option. However, that is where the similarities end. Let’s explore the differences between these two mattresses.
Sealy vs Octave Mattress Layers
Sealy
Octave
Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Layers
This 11” mattress (advertised as 10” on the Sleep Country website) has just two foam layers. This is surprising because most other memory foam mattresses have at least one transition layer between the top layer and the support base.
- First Layer: The 3” top layer is made of gel-infused memory foam of unspecified density. The cooling gel is one of the main cooling features of this mattress.
- Second Layer: The 8” base layer is also foam of an unspecified density. Sealy states that this layer provides reinforcement to prevent sagging over time.
Sealy describes its mattress as body contouring, with “generous layers” of liquid gel memory foam that relieve pressure and provide cool cushioning.
However, memory foam mattresses are known for sleeping hot and require advanced cooling features to stay comfortable. The Sealy mattress has minimal cooling features: a top layer of gel memory foam and a mattress cover containing cooling yarns of unknown material composition. It doesn’t seem likely that the mattress could provide enough cooling benefits to offset the heating qualities of memory foam.
Octave Mattress Layers
The 12” Octave Vista is a three-layer memory foam mattress that delivers an exceptional blend of cool, cushioned support. Its numerous cooling features include a nanofibre cover, CopperGel™ memory foam infused with phase-change material, and multi-zone support foam with built-in air channels.
- First Layer: 2” of CopperGel™ memory foam, paired with moisture-wicking PolarMAX® phase-change material. This high-performance layer pulls heat and sweat away from your body for a cooler, more comfortable sleep. As an antimicrobial metal, copper can also help reduce bacteria and maintain the cleanliness of your mattress.
- Second Layer: 2” of premium Elastex® foam. This responsive, body-contouring middle layer feels and responds like natural latex. It adds a little extra bounce to your sleep so you can shift positions more easily.
- Third Layer: 8” of high-density, ultra-durable motion isolation support foam to help you stay asleep, even with a restless partner. This layer also contains air channels to let warm air escape and fresh air flow through.
Sealy vs Octave Mattress Cover
Sealy
Octave
Sealy Mattress Cover
Sealy’s stretch top cover is white with blue and silver accent stitching. The Sealy logo, mattress model, and firmness level are all visible on the bottom half of the mattress. The cover also contains cooling yarn that’s meant to absorb and dissipate heat.
Despite the zipper, the top cover isn’t machine washable. You’ll need to carefully spot-treat any spills or stains.
Octave Mattress Cover
Octave Vista is refreshingly cool to the touch, thanks to CryoFusion™ nanofibres in the top cover. The upgraded models—Mirage and Horizon—contain a higher number of nanofibres, making them even cooler. These nanofibre-infused fabrics have excellent breathability and moisture-wicking properties.
Octave’s mattress cover features a swirling, blue-grey pattern that is unique to each mattress. The removable, machine-washable cover connects to the navy-blue base with a sturdy yet stylish zipper.
Sealy vs Octave: Environmental Sustainability
GoodMorning.com Inc. carried out a survey in February 2017, discovering that almost 50% of Canadians are willing to spend more money for more environmentally friendly products. Therefore, in every review on Mattress-Reviews.com, we will highlight each mattress company’s green philosophy, as well as how prominent their policies are on their websites.

Sealy
Octave
Feel & Firmness
According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Octave Vista and the Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione both have a medium-firm feel. Medium-firm mattresses are a great choice for most Canadian sleepers, as they tend to suit the widest range of body types and sleep styles.
- The Sealy mattress scored 6.2 / 10 on the firmness scale. Sleepers should notice minimal “sink” with this mattress.
- The Octave mattress scored 6.8 / 10 on the firmness scale. That means it will be slightly on the firmer side while striking a good balance of comfort and support.
Sealy
Octave
Edge Support
Foam mattresses are not generally known for their edge support. However, according to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), both the Sealy and Octave mattresses have above-average edge support scores.
- The Sealy mattress has excellent edge support at 8.5 / 10. This means you should not have any trouble getting out of bed or sitting on the edge of the bed.
- The Octave mattress has above-average edge support with a score of 7.5 / 10. Sleepers should be able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed and get up without difficulty.
Sealy
Octave
Motion Isolation
Motion isolation in foam mattresses is usually very good. This is one of the main reasons why many couples switch from innerspring to memory foam mattresses. According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Octave and Sealy mattresses provide similar levels of motion isolation.
- The Sealy mattress has above-average motion isolation at 7.1 / 10.
- The Octave mattress has above-average motion isolation, at 7.3 / 10 on the motion isolation scale. Sleepers can expect an undisturbed rest without noticing much movement from the other side of the mattress.
Sealy
Octave
Bounce
Because foam mattresses excel at motion isolation, their bounce ratings are generally very low. According to testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), the Octave and Sealy mattresses both performed below average for bounce.
- The Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione scored 2.9 / 10 on the bounce scale. A score this low means that sleepers could experience difficulty changing sleep positions.
- The Octave mattress is rated at 3.7 / 10 on the bounce scale. This can be attributed to its high motion isolation and foam composition. The layer of premium Elastex® foam will prevent you from getting “stuck” in the mattress, thanks to its springiness and responsiveness. This makes it easier to shift positions or get out of bed.

Should you buy Sealy or Octave?
The Sealy and Octave mattresses hold their own in the crowded mid-market segment of the Canadian mattress market. However, only Octave Vista offers premium features at less than 1/3 of the price. That’s why we named Octave the winner in this mattress comparison.
There are several factors that clearly set Octave apart from Sealy:
- More Cooling: Octave mattresses are engineered using advanced cooling features, like a CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibre cover, copper-infused memory foam, and phase-change material. These features help dissipate heat to offer an unmatched experience of coolness and comfort.
- Better Performance: Octave offers impressive edge support, motion isolation, and pressure relief. This is due in part to a strong combination of memory foam and multi-zoned support foam.
- Stronger Online Reputation: Octave is rated “A+” on Better Business Bureau and “Excellent” on Trustpilot. In contrast, Sealy’s unclaimed profile on Trustpilot has a “Poor” rating with just a handful of reviews, and its unaccredited Better Business Bureau page is rated “B-.” Octave’s high ratings give shoppers a good idea of the service quality they can expect as a customer.
- Greater Value: The Octave Vista comes with a 365-night sleep trial, 15-year warranty, and free bedding bundle, all for only $899 for a queen. The Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione has only a 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty. It also costs over 3x as much as Octave Vista at $3,299 for a queen.
All these features make Octave an excellent alternative to Sealy Posturepedic Optimum Chill Trio Dione. They’re also the reason we chose Octave as our #1 Cooling Mattress for 2024.
* Octave was named Canada’s Best Cooling Mattress by Best Health Magazine, which has an existing business relationship with GoodMorning.com.
