Douglas: The Perfect Balance Between Features and Price
Bed-in-a-box mattresses, specifically all-foam and combination foam mattresses, have become widely popular in Canada. Polysleep, Endy, and Douglas are among the more well-known Canadian bed-in-a-box brands, but a few factors immediately set them apart.
Despite the expensive price tags, the Polysleep and the Endy don’t offer nearly as many features as the Douglas. On top of having a sleep trial more than 3x the length of Polysleep or Endy, Douglas outperforms its competition in several other areas. Advantages include:
- A significantly longer sleep trial of 365 nights
- A longer warranty of 20 years
- A machine-washable mattress cover with moisture-wicking Infinitex™ fibres
- Cooling gel foam
- Comes with a free bedding bundle
- A savings of roughly $100 to Endy and $400 to Polysleep
The very attractive price point and 365-night sleep trial are why Douglas is Mattress-Reviews.com’s TOP PICK for MATTRESS UNDER $1,000 CAD. To see how we compared these three mattresses and read our full in-depth review, keep scrolling.

Polysleep
Polysleep is a Montreal-based bed-in-a-box company that entered the Canadian sleep space in 2016. Sticking true to their roots, Polysleep sells three variations of their hybrid memory foam mattress and Polysleep mattresses are made in Montreal.
Endy
Endy is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand owned by Sleep Country, Canada’s largest chain of mattress retail stores. The company has been selling its “one-size-fits-all” foam mattress since 2015, competing with other online brands like Casper and Douglas. Endy mattresses are made in Ontario and Quebec and shipped out from distribution centres in Ontario and British Columbia. In 2022, the company expanded its mattress lineup with the Endy Hybrid, a more firm version of their foam mattress mixing foam and coils.
Douglas
Douglas was introduced in 2017 by Canadian bed-in-a-box company GoodMorning.com. Douglas was manufactured as a single-firmness mattress, designed using eight years' worth of engineering data and customer feedback. GoodMorning.com designed the Douglas to be a value-packed, Canadian-made mattress at an unheard-of low price. They offer the same level of customer service for the Douglas as they do across their growing catalogue, along with a 365-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty.

With the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, memory foam mattresses are now shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than mattresses purchased from traditional retail stores. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery as boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
While Endy uses UPS to deliver their mattresses, Polysleep and Douglas use FedEx. All three mattresses are delivered directly to customers’ doors throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home.
Shipping times for Polysleep, Endy, and Douglas vary marginally. All three mattresses will be delivered within 10 business days.
As with any bed-in-a-box brand, Polysleep Endy, and Douglas heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. Douglas has the longest sleep trial of all three brands at 365 nights. With their 100-night sleep trials, Polysleep and Endy offer an average sleep trial length.
If a customer wishes to return their Polysleep, Endy, or Douglas mattress within the sleep trial period, all three companies will arrange to pick up their mattress.
While Endy and Douglas issue full refunds upon mattress pick-up and do not have additional return fees, customers should be aware that Polysleep only issues partial refunds. Every Polysleep mattress return warrants a mandatory $85 flat fee deducted from the original refund amount.

Expansion time: | 3 minutes | 2 minutes | 2 minutes |
The Polysleep, Endy, and Douglas mattresses were delivered to us within the expected time frames. All three mattresses were wrapped in heavy-duty plastic layers in their boxes for protection during shipping.
While the Polysleep mattress box was sealed with adhesive glue, customers might need scissors or a knife to open the box. Contrarily, the Endy and Douglas mattress boxes were all sealed with heavy-duty tape. Customers will need scissors or a knife to open either of these boxes. To prevent potential harm to yourself or your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out of its cardboard packaging. Tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most practical to complete this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
The Polysleep mattress was protected with three thick layers of heavy-duty plastic – one to compress it in a vacuum seal, and two to keep it tightly rolled in a cylinder shape. The Endy and Douglas mattresses were protected with two thick layers of heavy-duty plastic. Customers will need to unwrap the outer layer of plastic in order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape into a flat, albeit compressed, form.
Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled-up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find where the outer layer of plastic begins and start peeling it back. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will rest unrolled before you.
Next, cut and remove the remaining layers of plastic. With the vacuum seal now broken, the new mattress will begin to decompress. A bed-in-a-box mattress should expand to its full height within a few minutes to a few days. The Endy and Douglas mattresses expanded to their full height within 2 minutes. The Polysleep mattress expanded within 3 minutes.

Polysleep Mattress Layers
The Polysleep mattress contains three layers of foam:
- The first layer is 3” ventilated hybrid foam. This layer is designed to provide optimal comfort and temperature performance. Foam density: 3.0 lbs/ft3.
- The second layer of the Polysleep mattress is 1.5” soft support foam. This transition layer works with the comfort layer to provide an additional level of support and will help conform to your body shape. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft3.
- The third layer is 5.5″ base foam. This bottom support layer gives the mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far. Foam density: between 1.5 lbs/ft3 and 2 lbs/ft3.
Endy Mattress Layers
The Endy mattress contains three layers of foam:
- The first layer is 2” of Endy comfort foam. This layer is designed to provide optimal comfort and temperature performance.*
- The second layer of the Endy mattress is 3” of polyurethane foam. This layer works with the comfort layer to provide an additional level of support and will help conform to the body. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft3.
- The final layer of foam in the Endy mattress is 5” of polyurethane foam. This layer gives the Endy mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft3.
*Endy does not provide density information for their top layer of foam.
Douglas Mattress Layers
Douglas uses three layers of foam in the construction of its Canadian-made mattress.- First layer: 2 inches of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. This cooling gel encourages a restful sleep by ensuring that the mattress doesn’t trap heat. The ecoLight® foam has the durability, responsiveness, and comfort of memory foam, but it has a lower carbon footprint. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft3.
- Second layer: 2 inches of Elastex® foam. This transition layer is designed to provide spring and support. Many mattresses use latex for similar reasons. Elastex® is free of the allergy-causing chemicals found in latex.
- Third layer: 6 inches of motion isolation support foam. This thick bottom layer greatly reduces motion transfer between sleepers, and it also enhances edge support.

Polysleep Mattress Cover
The Polysleep mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part features purple mesh fabric, and the top part of the liquid-repellent cover is white with a speckle-knit pattern. Despite its zipper, the topside is not machine washable. Still, this removable design will make it easier to spot-clean your Polysleep cover.
Endy Mattress Cover
The Endy mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part of the cover is a heavier-duty grey fabric, and the top part is white with a diamond-knit pattern. Additionally, the top portion of the Endy mattress cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of Lycra for stretch. The top half can also be unzipped and cleaned in the washing machine as necessary.
Douglas Mattress Cover
With its mountainscape stitching to its red and white colour profile, Douglas’ Canadian-centric cover shows the brand's homegrown roots. Cut from a single piece of fabric and woven together, the design is almost seamless. The red zipper running the entire length of the side wall and the red Douglas badge are the only elements that break up this impressive white canvas.
As for upkeep, the top half is machine washable, a bonus for anyone who can't stand the thought of spot cleaning their bed by hand. Douglas' cover is enhanced with moisture-wicking Infinitex™ fibres. This proprietary fabric is stretch-knit and very soft, but also extremely durable. The cover is great for staying cool and breathable through the night, so you won't wake up in a pool of sweat.
