Logan & Cove is a well-known mattress brand with a loyal Canadian following. Octave is a newer brand, but it’s backed by years of experience under its former name: Novosbed. So, what are the backgrounds of these two mattress lines?

Octave

Octave is the next step in the evolution of the Novosbed mattress. The Vista, Mirage, and Horizon models are designed to enhance the Canadian sleep experience and provide greater cooling, motion isolation, and pressure relief than the popular Novosbed.

Logan & Cove

Since launching in 2018, Logan & Cove has become one of Canada’s best-selling boxed hybrid mattress brands. Its combination of premium materials and luxury features is a compelling alternative to similar retail store models selling for thousands of dollars more.

The Octave and Logan & Cove brands are both owned by GoodMorning.com. This direct-to-customer mattress company has sold over 350,000 mattresses across the United States and Canada in the last 10 years. GoodMorning.com maintains an A+ rating on Better Business Bureau and an “Excellent” rating on Trustpilot.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.

“Bed-in-a-box” mattresses are gaining popularity for many reasons, including their quality, ease of ordering, and convenient boxed delivery. You can pick out and order your mattress online and receive it directly at your front door just days later. You don’t have to be at home to accept it, and you can try out the mattress in your own home on your timetable without the pressure of making a quick decision based on a 10-minute sleep test in a showroom.

Octave and Logan & Cove use FedEx to deliver their mattresses, and both companies deliver directly to customers’ doors throughout most of Canada. Shipping times for Octave and Logan & Cove are similar: around 3–10 business days for most of Canada. If you live in a remote location, the shipper may transfer your package to a local courier for delivery. Additional shipping costs may apply.

Like any other bed-in-a-box brands, Octave and Logan & Cove heavily promote their in-home sleep trials—the longest in Canada at 365 nights.

If a customer wants to return their Octave or Logan & Cove mattress within the sleep trial period, both companies will arrange to pick it up and issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees for the Logan & Cove or Octave mattresses.

Both the Octave and Logan & Cove mattresses were delivered in a cardboard box within the expected timeframe. Heavy-duty plastic layers protected both mattresses during shipping. The box can be recycled, but we recommend keeping the information you received with your shipment—like the sleep trial and return policy—along with the plastic bag the mattress was shipped in.

Unboxing

The Logan & Cove and Octave mattress boxes were sealed with heavy-duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the packaging. Remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to open the box to prevent potential harm to yourself or your new mattress.

Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a “tip-and-pull” motion to slide the mattress out of its cardboard packaging slowly. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most practical to complete this process in the room where you use the mattress.

Unwrapping

The Logan & Cove and Octave mattresses had two layers of heavy-duty plastic—an inner layer that compressed the mattress in a vacuum seal and an exterior layer that kept it tightly bound in its cylinder shape. Instructions are included in the shipping bag for easier unpacking.

We recommend placing the rolled-up mattress onto the designated bed frame for easier setup. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find where the outer layer of plastic begins and start peeling it back. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few metres long. After completing this process, the mattress will rest unrolled before you.

Expansion

Finally, cut and remove the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal is now broken, and your new mattress will begin to decompress. A bed-in-a-box mattress should expand to its full height within a few minutes to a few days. The Octave and Logan & Cove mattresses expanded to their full height within a few minutes.

The Octave and the Logan & Cove mattresses are constructed very differently. Octave Vista is a three-layer, combination foam mattress, while Logan & Cove Choice is a four-layer hybrid mattress. Each mattress provides comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary in composition, height, and density.

Octave Mattress Layers

The 12” Octave Vista is a three-layer memory foam mattress that is engineered to deliver an exceptional blend of cool, cushioned support:

• First layer: 2 inches of CopperGel™ memory foam and moisture-wicking PolarMAX® phase-change material. This high-performance layer pulls heat and sweat away from your body for a cooler, more comfortable sleep. Copper is also an antimicrobial metal, which helps reduce bacteria and maintain the cleanliness of your mattress.
• Second layer: 2 inches of premium Elastex® foam that feels and responds like natural latex. It adds a little spring and support so you can shift positions more easily, and the natural ventilation also helps you sleep cool.
• Third layer: 8 inches of high-density, ultra-durable motion isolation support foam to help you stay asleep, even with a restless partner. This layer offers zoned support to promote spinal alignment and better support sleepers’ lower back and hips. It also contains air channels to let warm air escape and fresh air flow through.

Logan & Cove Mattress Layers

The Logan & Cove Choice mattress is made with 4 robust layers, to meet the needs of different comfort preferences:

• First layer: 0.5 inch of quilted top cover. The top cover is made with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres, which provide a cool and supple feel. It also includes breathable hollow fibre fill and quilted gel-infused foam for added plushness.
• Second layer: 1 inch of ecoLuxe® cooling gel foam. The cooling gel foam gently cushions your shoulders, hips, and knees while wicking away excess body heat during the night. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft³.
• Third layer: 1.5 inches of Elastex® foam. This thicker foam layer serves as transitional support between the pocketed coils below and the cushioning layers above. It effortlessly contours to your body, providing exceptional comfort in any sleeping position. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft³.
• Fourth layer: 9-inch individually wrapped pocketed coils. The pocketed coils are made from multi-tempered steel and arranged in 5 zones to provide robust support and motion isolation across the entire sleep surface..

Octave Vista is cool to the touch, thanks to CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres in the top cover. The upgraded Octave models—Mirage and Horizon—have even more cooling nanofibres. This makes each model even cooler than the last.

The mattress cover features a swirling, blue-grey pattern on a white background. This pattern is unique to each mattress. The removable, machine-washable cover connects to the navy blue base with a sturdy yet stylish zipper. Each mattress features the signature of the company’s CEO as a statement of quality.

Logan & Cove Mattress Cover

Logan & Cove’s cover is quilted and full of intricate workmanship and design, usually seen only in mattresses at a much higher price point. The cover design uses diamond tufting, accent stitching, and other elegant details to create a mattress you can’t help but touch. 

The white quilting is filled with breathable hollow fibre fill and gel-infused foam with CryoFusion™ nanofibres. The Logan & Cove cover is not machine-washable, but your mattress purchase comes with a free mattress protector with an impermeable WaterShield™ barrier and a temperature-regulating bamboo blend.

Feel & Firmness

According to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), Logan & Cove Choice and Octave Vista are both considered medium-firm mattresses. Neither mattress has excessive “hug,” although Logan & Cove has just a bit of sinkage for an extra touch of softness:

• Octave scored a 6.8 / 10 on the firmness scale, which strikes a good balance of comfort and support. Medium-firm mattresses are a great choice for most Canadian sleepers, as they suit the broadest range of body types, sizes, and sleep styles.
• Logan & Cove is rated at 5.8 / 10 on the firmness scale. The five-zone coil support system offers enhanced lower back support while the layers of premium foams and quilted top cover provide a plush sleep surface to lie on.

Edge Support

Edge support is important if you like to sit or lie on the edge of the bed, have mobility issues, or need extra support when getting in and out of bed. In third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us), both mattresses earned above-average edge support scores:

• The Octave mattress has above-average edge support, at 7.5 / 10 on the edge support scale.
• The Logan & Cove mattress has an edge support rating of 7.0 / 10 on the edge support scale.

Motion Isolation

Many people love memory foam mattresses like Octave for their superior motion isolation. Still, Logan & Cove proves that a quality hybrid mattress can also deliver in this category. Motion isolation is especially important for couples if one person is a light sleeper and the other tosses and turns at night.

Our independent, third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us) showed that both Octave and Logan & Cove perform above average for motion isolation:

• The Octave Vista mattress has a motion isolation score of 7.3 / 10.
• The Logan & Cove mattress has a motion isolation score of  6.4 / 10.

Bounce

Because foam mattresses excel at motion isolation, bounce ratings are generally very low. Thanks to the coil layer, hybrid mattresses can have higher ratings than their foam counterparts.

According to third-party engineer testing (commissioned by us):

• The Octave mattress is rated at 3.7 / 10 on the bounce scale. This score is below average, meaning Octave absorbs compression and neutralizes movement—great if you value undisturbed sleep.
• The Logan & Cove mattress is rated at 5.2 / 10 on the bounce scale. This is largely due to the coil layer, which provides additional responsiveness and support.

Despite these varying scores, both mattresses still have good responsiveness and “springiness.” Each mattress has a layer of premium Elastex® foam that will help prevent you from feeling “stuck” when you shift positions or get out of bed.
