Despite its prominent presence in the United States, Nectar joins Juno in seeking to further establish its brand in the Canadian sleep space. Here’s an overview of both companies.
Nectar
Nectar Sleep is based out of California and owned by Resident. Initially founded in 2017, Nectar opened their first showroom and began selling their mattresses on Amazon in 2019. Nectar mattresses are manufactured in the United States with foams made in China and Mexico. After achieving success in the United States, Nectar expanded and started selling mattresses in Canada in 2022.
Juno
The Juno mattress was launched in August of 2019 by the Canadian mattress-in-a-box company GoodMorning.com. Designed, sold, and manufactured exclusively in Canada, Juno is the logical next step in the progression of GoodMorning.com’s mission to make high-quality sleep more affordable throughout Canada. This value mattress comes with all the features GoodMorning.com is famous for, such as the 120-night trial, 15-year warranty, and outstanding Canadian customer care – and does so at a very affordable price.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Delivery
Nectar uses either FedEx or UPS while Juno uses FedEx. Both mattresses are delivered directly to customers’ doors throughout most parts of Canada.
Additionally, Nectar and Juno offer free shipping to the majority of Canadian postal codes with remote shipping fees applying to a minority of addresses.
Both Nectar and Juno also have a delivery estimate of 3 to 10 business days, excluding public holidays.
Trial Period
Like many bed-in-a-box companies, Nectar and Juno both heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. While Juno offers a 120-night sleep trial, Nectar has the longest trial period of the two mattress brands at 365 nights.
Returns and Additional Fees
In case you discover your new mattress isn’t the right one for you, Nectar and Juno offer free returns within their sleep trial periods. Once notified, both companies will arrange for your mattress to be picked up and for your refund to be issued.
Customers should be aware that Nectar states that mattresses which haven’t been opened within 90 days of delivery are “misused and are ineligible for warranty claims and returns.” The mattress we received for our Nectar review spent nearly nine months in its box before being shipped to us. Customers on Reddit, Trustpilot, and the Better Business Bureau have reported receiving mattresses that were in the box for several months before receiving them and other customer service issues. Unlike Nectar, Juno mattresses are made fresh to order and have an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau.

Delivery Times & Opening the Box
The Nectar and Juno mattresses arrived within the expected delivery times, were well-protected in their respective boxes, and used heavy-duty plastic layers to prevent damage during shipping.
Both mattress boxes came sealed with heavy-duty tape. Customers will need scissors or a knife to open the box. To prevent injuries and to avoid damaging the mattress inside, please remember to be very careful when using sharp objects to open the box.
Setting up the Mattress
Once opened, each compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down to its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
Both mattresses are protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic to compress it in a vacuum seal and keep it tightly rolled up for shipping.
Customers will need to unwrap the outer layer in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will be unrolled before you.
Expansion Time
Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will quickly begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattresses expands to its full height. For Juno, full expansion took around 2 minutes. Nectar, on the other hand, took around 3 minutes.

Both Nectar and Juno are combination foam mattresses in which multiple layers are used to provide sleepers with comfort and support.
In this case, both mattresses have comfort and support layers, with Nectar featuring an added transition layer. Even so, some of the biggest differences between the Nectar and Juno revolve around the type of foam used at each layer. In addition, while Juno’s cover is made from polyester and viscose, Nectar’s is made from polyester, nylon, and polyethylene.
Nectar vs Juno Mattress Layers
Nectar
Juno
Nectar Mattress Layers
The Nectar mattress contains three layers of foam. Like many of the combination foam mattresses on the market today, all layers in the Nectar mattress work together to provide an overall level of comfort and support.
- First layer: 2 inches of Gel-infused Memory Foam. This top layer is designed to be a soft foam that contours to your body as you sink into the mattress.
- Second layer: 3 inches of Conventional Foam. This layer is designed to offer bounce and be responsive to pressure, but the third-party testing we commissioned implies it might not be super effective.
- Third layer: 7 more inches of Conventional Foam. This final layer provides structure and acts as a base of the mattress.
Remember, higher-density foams, like those used in Octave and Tempur-Pedic, will generally have a longer life expectancy than their lower-density counterparts. Octave mattresses also include high-tech cooling features like copper-infused memory foam and temperature-balancing phase-change material (PCM) at a very competitive price point.
Juno Mattress Layers
The Juno mattress contains two layers of foam. Like many combination foam mattresses available on the market today, these two layers work together to provide comfort and support.
- First layer: 2 inches of Full-Body Cooling Gel Foam. This top layer offers contoured comfort, as well as overall cooling and breathability. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft³.
- Second layer: 6 inches of Total Support Foam. This bottom layer allows Juno to provide support and firmness to sleepers. This layer improves overall edge support while reducing motion transfer. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft³.
Nectar vs Juno Mattress Cover
Nectar
Juno
Nectar Mattress Cover
Whether it’s misleading or simply an oversight, there appears to be conflicting information from Nectar on how to care for your purchase and remain eligible for its warranty.
The tag on the front of the mattress includes a picture of a washing machine that says, “washable cover.” That must mean you can remove the cover to clean it in the washing machine, right? Wrong. Nectar’s warranty clearly states: “This Mattress Warranty does not cover: Any Mattress that has had the cover removed for any reason (removing the Mattress cover will void this warranty).”
You’ll have to meticulously spot-clean the mattress cover when needed, as stated in the care instructions. So why does Nectar include that washing machine logo?
As for appearance and materials, the bottom and sidewalls of the Nectar mattress are a solid charcoal color. The sleep surface is a white color with small diamond-shaped patterning. Additionally, the mattress cover is made of a poly-blend and includes polyethylene fibres.
Juno Mattress Cover
Juno’s cover design is an homage to the iconic striped wool socks Canadians have worn for generations. The grey, white, and red pattern is made up of a soft blend of polyester and viscose. The Juno logo is stitched across the red stripe running across the mattress. Finally, there’s a zipper underneath the mattress that makes it possible for you to remove the cover if necessary for easier care and maintenance.

Should you buy a Nectar or a Juno?
After comparing both mattress brands, several factors stood out. While the Nectar is a medium-soft mattress for those who prefer more sink, the Juno is a medium-firm mattress with consistent support and minimal motion transfer. Additionally, Nectar offers longer a sleep trial and warranty than Juno, though customer complaints on Reddit, Trustpilot, and the Better Business Bureau question whether buying from Nectar is worth it.
In the end, what elevated one brand above the other is its attractive price point, use of Canadian-sourced materials, and remarkable value. Juno is Mattress-Reviews.com’s TOP PICK for MATTRESS UNDER $500 CAD. Despite being the more cost-effective option, Juno outperformed Nectar in firmness, edge support, and motion isolation. Customers who opt for a Juno instead of a Nectar can also benefit from a generous sleep trial with straightforward returns, a mattress that was made fresh to order, free pillow(s) and bedding, and purchasing from a brand with an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau.
Buy Nectar if you want:
