Layla and Logan & Cove are two of the new players in the Canadian mattress scene, and both brands are working to build up a loyal Canadian customer base. So, what are the backgrounds of Layla and Logan & Cove?
The Layla mattress was launched in 2015, marking the American online retailer’s entrance into the bed-in-a-box mattress space. As expected, the copper-infused memory foam is the key feature in their flagship mattress. Copper flakes are added into the mixture when pouring and creating the foam. Finally, the Layla can be flipped, with different firmness levels on either face of the mattress.
Logan & Cove was launched in early 2018. Since then, it has grown to become one of the best-selling boxed hybrid mattress brands in Canada, even outpacing some brands that had helped define the segment. Its combination of premium materials with luxurious design details is still seen as an attractive alternative to similar retail store models, which sell for up to a few thousand dollars more.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Layla uses UPS deliver their mattresses throughout the United States and most parts of Canada. Logan & Cove only sell their mattress in Canada, using FedEx to ship their mattresses directly to customers’ doors. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck while the customer is away from home.
Layla offers free shipping in the contiguous United States, but delivery to Canada, Hawaii, or Alaska is subject to a $125 fee. Logan & Cove offers free shipping throughout Canada. Customers who order either mattress can expect their delivery to arrive within 10 days after order confirmation.
Like many bed-in-a-box companies, Layla and Logan & Cove both heavily promote their sleep trials. With 365-night sleep trials, Logan & Cove has one of the longest sleep trials of all mattress brands.
If a customer wishes to return their Layla or Logan & Cove mattress within the sleep trial period, each company will arrange to pick up their respective mattress and issue a full refund; however, Layla will deduct return shipping fees in the refund amount. There are no additional return or restocking fees for Logan & Cove.

Both the Layla and Logan & Cove mattresses were delivered to us within the expected time frames. Each product was well-protected within the box by heavy-duty plastic to keep the mattress in good condition during shipping.
Each mattress box was sealed with heavy-duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the Logan & Cove, but it is not essential for opening the Layla mattress box. To prevent potential harm to your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to remove any packaging.
Once opened, each compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattress out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the box from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight box away from the bundled mattress. It’s most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use the mattress.
Both mattresses are protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic – a thick inner layer to keep it compressed in a vacuum seal, and thinner outer layers to keep the mattress tightly rolled in a cylinder shape.
Customers will need to unwrap the outer layers in order to unroll the mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattress onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattress along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattress will be lying unrolled before you.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now broken, the mattress will quickly begin to decompress. Remove this final layer of plastic as the mattress expands to its full height. With Logan & Cove, full expansion took 1 minute. With the Layla mattress, it took 3 minutes.

The Layla and Logan & Cove mattresses are constructed very differently. The Layla is a flippable combination foam mattress, whereas the Logan & Cove is a foam-coil hybrid. While Logan & Cove is available in one firmness option, the Layla can be flipped over, giving users the option between medium-firm and medium-soft configurations.
Some of the other major differences between the Layla mattress and Logan & Cove mattress are the different types of foams used for comfort, contouring, and pressure-point relief, not to mention the support layers for motion isolation and edge support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.
Also, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases the brand’s personality and design aesthetic.
Logan & Cove is proudly made with foams, coils, and fabrics sourced from Canadian manufacturers.

Layla Mattress Layers
The Layla mattress contains four layers of foam. The order in which they appear determines whether the mattress is medium-firm or medium-soft.
- The outer layer on either side of the Layla mattress was created to provide an optimal level of comfort and cooling. Infused with copper, these layers help regulate body temperature. Layla has used this material within their mattresses to alleviate one of the major drawbacks of foam: ‘sleeping hot.’ The soft layer comes in at a 3.5 lbs/ft3 density, while the firm layer shown at the top of the image above is just 1” thick but still provides rapid heat transfer, compression support, and antimicrobial properties.
- The second and thickest layer is a 4.5″ tier designed to provide core support at a density of 2 lbs/ft3.
- The third layer of the Layla mattress is 2″ of convoluted support foam. This 1.8 lbs/ft3 foam was designed to maximize air flow and breathability.
Logan & Cove Mattress Layers
The Logan & Cove mattress is made with 4 robust layers, to meet the needs of different comfort preferences:
- First layer: 0.5 inch of quilted top cover. The top cover is made with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibers, which provide a cool and supple feel. It also includes breathable hollow fibre fill and quilted gel-infused foam for added plushness.
- Second layer: 1 inch of cooling gel memory foam. This responsive material helps with cushioning and heat regulation around the sleeping surface. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft3.
- Third layer: 1.5 inches of Elastex® foam. This thicker foam layer serves as transitional support between the pocketed coils below and the cushioning layers above. It effortlessly contours to your body, providing exceptional comfort in any sleeping position. Foam density: 1.8 lbs/ft3.
- Fourth layer: 9-inch individually wrapped pocketed coils. The pocketed coils are made from multi-tempered steel and arranged in 5 zones to provide robust support and motion isolation across the entire sleep surface.

Layla Mattress Cover
The Layla mattress has a unique cover design patterned with three-dimensional cubes, stretching across the top surface and extending midway down the side walls. It’s like sleeping on a portrait by M.C Escher, the artist best known for his optical illusions. The white and light grey accents are presented through the use of the zipper, which connects the washable top cover to the base fabric.
When in need of cleaning, the top cover can be zipped off from the base unit and taken to the dry cleaners. One limitation we found with the zipper location for the top cover was that the zipper does not always stay flush on the upper edge of the mattress, especially if a sleeper moves around a lot during the night. Customers who require perfect aesthetics may find this frustrating.
The Layla mattress top cover is quite the composition. Their support staff note that it contains 66% polyester, 30% viscose, 4% poly/lycra, and is woven with the registered Thermogel® cooling agent for added comfort.
Logan & Cove Mattress Cover
Logan & Cove’s impressive quilting is full of intricate details, ones generally reserved for higher price segments. The design uses diamond tufting, accent stitching, and other elegant touches to make a mattress you can’t help but want to run your hands across.
To keep you cool and comfortable through the night, the white quilting is filled with breathable hollow fibre fill and gel-infused foam infused with CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres. Altogether, this luxury styling is all but unheard of in the mattress-in-a-box category, especially at Logan & Cove’s price point.Layla vs Logan & Cove: Feel and Firmness
