Endy and Novosbed are two of the most well-known mattress brands in Canada and both brands have built up a loyal Canadian customer base. So, what is the background behind Endy and Novosbed?

Endy

Endy is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand owned by Sleep Country, Canada’s largest chain of mattress retail stores. The company has been selling its “one-size-fits-all” foam mattress since 2015, competing with other online brands like Casper and Douglas. Endy mattresses are made in Ontario and Quebec and shipped out from distribution centres in Ontario and British Columbia. In 2022, the company expanded its mattress lineup with the Endy Hybrid, a more firm version of their foam mattress mixing foam and coils.

Novosbed

GoodMorning.com released their first memory foam mattress, Novosbed, in 2009, making them one of the pioneers of the bed-in-a-box mattress industry. Their innovative culture soon went on to create the now universal idea of the ‘Sleep Trial,’ giving online mattress shoppers a way to bypass the traditional mattress store shopping experience and test out their new bed at home for as long as it actually takes to evaluate a mattress properly.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.

Endy uses UPS to deliver the Endy mattress to customers throughout Canada. Novosbed uses FedEx. Both mattresses are delivered directly to the doors of customers throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck whilst the customer is at work.

Shipping times for Endy and Novosbed are very similar. Both bed-in-a-box mattresses will be delivered within 10 days.

As with any bed-in-a-box brand, Endy and Novosbed heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. Novosbed has the longest sleep trial of both mattress brands with a 120-night sleep trial. Endy only offers a 100-night sleep trial.

The Endy mattress and Novosbed mattress were both delivered to us within the expected delivery time. Both mattresses were well protected by heavy-duty plastic layers within the boxes to protect the mattresses during shipping.

The Endy mattress and Novosbed mattress boxes were both sealed effectively with heavy-duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. To prevent potential harm to your new mattress, remember to be extra careful when using sharp objects to remove any packaging.

Once opened, both of the compressed mattresses are easy to remove from the box. We recommend a ‘tip-and-pull’ motion to slowly slide the mattresses out from its cardboard container. Simply tip the boxes from a vertical position down onto its side, and then pull the lightweight boxes away from the bundled mattresses. It’s most efficient to do this process in the room where you intend to use either mattress

The Endy mattress and Novosbed mattress are both protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic and customers will need to unwrap the first layer of plastic in order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape into a flat, albeit compressed, shape.

Customers will need to unwrap the first layer in order to unroll either mattress, which will still be in its compressed form. Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled up mattresses onto the designated bed frame. Next, like the end of a roll of tape, find and peel back the outer layer of plastic. You can use the momentum of unrolling the compressed mattresses along the bed frame to help remove the rest of this layer, which could be up to a few meters long. After completing this process, the mattresses will be lying unrolled before you.

Next, cut the final layer of plastic and the new Endy mattress or Novosbed mattress will start decompressing. Remove this final layer of plastic and the mattress should expand to its full height within a few minutes. The Novosbed mattress took 3 minutes to fully expand. The Endy mattress took 3 minutes to fully expand.

The Endy mattress is a combination foam mattress and is only available in one firmness option. The Novosbed mattress uses high-density memory foam and is available in three different firmness options: soft, medium, and firm.

One of the major differences between the Endy mattress and the Novosbed mattress is the different types of foam used for comfort and support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.

Also, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases each brand’s mattress design. Top covers are sometimes washable, and out of the two mattresses tested, only the Novosbed has a machine-washable top cover.

The Endy mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part of the cover is a heavier duty grey fabric, and the top part of the cover is white with a diamond knit pattern. The top part of the cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of lycra for stretch. Unlike other mattresses on the market, Endy does not highlight eco-friendly fabric. The top portion of the Endy mattress can be unzipped and cleaned in the washing machine as necessary.
