Endy

Endy is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand owned by Sleep Country, Canada’s largest chain of mattress retail stores. The company has been selling its “one-size-fits-all” foam mattress since 2015, competing with other online brands like Casper and Douglas. Both the Endy and Douglas mattresses arrived on time as expected. They were well protected inside the boxes with solid layers of plastic.

To open the boxes, you’ll need scissors or a knife, but be cautious to avoid hurting yourself or damaging the mattress.

When you unbox the mattress, it will easily slide out. We recommend tipping the box onto its side and gently pulling it away from the mattress. It’s best to do this in the room where you plan to put the mattress.

Both the Endy and Douglas mattresses have multiple layers of plastic. There’s an inner layer that creates a vacuum seal and an outer layer that keeps it in a rolled shape. To unfold the mattress, you need to remove the outer plastic layer.

A helpful tip is to position the rolled-up mattress on the bed frame and find the beginning of the outer plastic layer. Peel it off while unrolling the mattress along the bed frame.  Once you’re done, the mattress will be unrolled in front of you.

Finally, remove and throw away the last layer of plastic. This will break the vacuum seal and allow the mattress to start expanding. A bed-in-a-box mattress usually reaches its full height within a few minutes to a few days. Surprisingly, both the Endy and Douglas mattresses reached their full height in just 3 minutes. Both mattresses had similar unboxing experiences with no distinctive features.

Endy mattress is a three-tiered foam creation:

• The topmost layer of the Endy mattress comprises 2” of Endy comfort foam. This layer is expertly crafted to offer supreme comfort and optimal temperature regulation.*
• The middle layer is a 3” slab of polyurethane foam. Working in tandem with the comfort layer, it extends additional support and adeptly moulds to the body’s contours.
• The final layer is a 5” deep polyurethane foam layer. This foundational layer lends structure to the Endy mattress and prevents sleepers from sinking too deep.

*Endy remains elusive about the density specifics for their top foam layer. However, the density of the second and third layers of the Endy mattress is recorded as 1.8 lbs/ft³.

Douglas Mattress Layers

Douglas uses three layers of foam in the construction of its Canadian-made mattress.

• First layer: 2 inches of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. This cooling gel encourages a restful sleep by ensuring that the mattress doesn’t trap heat. The ecoLight® foam has the durability, responsiveness, and comfort of memory foam, but it has a lower carbon footprint. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft³.
• Second layer: 2 inches of Elastex® foam. This transition layer is designed to provide spring and support. Many mattresses use latex for similar reasons. Elastex® is free of the allergy-causing chemicals found in latex.
• Third layer: 6 inches of motion isolation support foam. This thick bottom layer greatly reduces motion transfer between sleepers, and it also enhances edge support.

Endy presents a two-toned cover that blends heavy-duty grey fabric at the bottom with a white diamond-knit pattern on top. The upper portion is predominantly crafted from polyester, with a smidgen of Lycra introduced for added elasticity.

In contrast to brands like Douglas and Octave that place emphasis on eco-conscious fabric, Endy doesn’t highlight this feature. Nonetheless, the top part of the Endy mattress cover is easy to maintain with its machine-washable capabilities.
