Endy, Bloom, and Douglas are three of the most well-known mattress brands in Canada and all three brands have built up a loyal Canadian customer base. So, what are the backgrounds behind Endy, Bloom, and Douglas?
Endy
Endy is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand owned by Sleep Country, Canada’s largest chain of mattress retail stores. The company has been selling its “one-size-fits-all” foam mattress since 2015, competing with other online brands like Casper and Douglas. Endy mattresses are made in Ontario and Quebec and shipped out from distribution centres in Ontario and British Columbia. In 2022, the company expanded its mattress lineup with the Endy Hybrid, a more firm version of their foam mattress mixing foam and coils.
Bloom
Sleep Country introduced the Bloom mattress in 2017, marking the Canadian retailer’s entrance into the ‘bed-in-a-box’ mattress space. Best known for their radio jingle, which can be recited by most Canadians: “Why buy a mattress anywhere else? Ding!”, Sleep Country has been a staple of Canadian’s lives for almost 25 years.
Douglas
Douglas was introduced in 2017 by Canadian bed-in-a-box company GoodMorning.com. Douglas was manufactured as a single-firmness mattress, designed using eight years' worth of engineering data and customer feedback. GoodMorning.com designed the Douglas to be a value-packed, Canadian-made mattress at an unheard-of low price. They offer the same level of customer service for the Douglas as they do across their growing catalogue, along with a 365-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty.

Thanks to modern compression methods and the rising popularity of the bed-in-a-box, mattresses can now be shipped far more efficiently and conveniently than ever before. Customers no longer need to take a day off work to accept a delivery. Boxed beds are now delivered with the same convenience as most Amazon orders. Some bed-in-a-box companies even offer same-day delivery to certain areas.
Both Bloom and Endy use UPS to deliver their mattresses to Canadians. Douglas used FED/EX. All three mattresses will be delivered directly to customers doors throughout most parts of Canada. In some cases, the mattresses can even be left on a porch or deck whilst the customer is at work.
Shipping time for Endy, Bloom, and Douglas is the same. All three bed-in-a-box mattresses will be delivered within 10 days.
As with any bed-in-a-box brand, Endy, Bloom, and Douglas heavily promote their in-home sleep trials. Douglas has the longest sleep trial of all three mattress brands with a 365-night sleep trial. Endy and Bloom both only offer a 100-night sleep trial. However, the Bloom mattress can only be returned to Sleep Country for an in-store credit.
If a customer wishes to return their Endy, Bloom, or Douglas mattress within the sleep trial, all three companies will arrange to pick the mattresses up and issue a full refund. There are no additional return or restocking fees for the Endy mattress or Douglas mattress, however, customers who decide to return the Bloom mattress pay an ‘Exchange Fee’ of $65 CAD.

The Endy, Bloom, and Douglas mattresses were delivered to us within the expected delivery time. All three mattresses were well protected by heavy-duty plastic layers within the boxes to protect the mattresses during shipping.
The Endy, Bloom, and Douglas mattress boxes were all sealed with heavy duty tape. Customers will definitely need scissors or a knife to open the box. Remember to be extra careful when opening the box with sharp objects.
Once opened, the compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box. A simple ‘tip-and-pull’ motion is what we recommend. Simply tip the box from a vertical position into a horizontal position and pull the mattress out of the box. We recommend doing this process in the designated bedroom.
The Endy, Bloom, and Douglas mattresses are all protected with multiple layers of heavy-duty plastic and customers will need to unwrap the first layer of plastic in order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape into a flat, albeit compressed, shape.
Some helpful advice at this stage is to place the rolled mattress on to the designated bed frame, find the end of the outer layer plastic, pull it loose, and use the resulting momentum to roll the mattress into position on the frame. Once in position, remove that outer plastic layer. After completing this process, customers will see a folded and unrolled mattress. Simply unfold the mattress, the top cover will be facing up, and place the corners in the correct position on the frame or foundation.
Next, cut the final layer of plastic and the new Endy, Bloom, or Douglas mattress will start decompressing. Remove this final layer of plastic and the mattress should expand to its full height within a few minutes. The Endy, Bloom, and Douglas mattress all expanded to their full height within 3 minutes.

One of the major differences between the Endy, Bloom, and Douglas mattresses are the different types foam used for comfort and support. Each mattress contains comfort, transition, and support layers, and these layers vary slightly in height and density.
Also, each mattress has a unique top cover which showcases each brand’s mattress design. Top covers are sometimes washable, and out of the three mattresses tested, only the Endy does not have a machine-washable top cover.
Endy vs Bloom vs Douglas Mattress Layers
Endy
Bloom
Douglas
Endy Mattress Layers
The Endy mattress contains 3 layers of foam:
- The first layer of the Endy mattress is 2” of Endy comfort foam. This layer is designed to provide optimal comfort and temperature performance.
- The second layer of the Endy mattress is 3” of polyurethane foam. This layer works with the comfort layer to provide an additional level of support and will help conform to the body.
- The final layer of foam in the Endy mattress is 5” of polyurethane foam. This layer which gives the Endy mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far.
- Endy does not provide density information for their top layer of foam. The second and third layer of the Endy mattress are both 1.8lbs/ft3.
Bloom Mattress Layers
The Bloom mattress contains 4 layers of foam:
- The first layer of the Bloom mattress is 1″ of aerated gel foam. This top layer is designed to provide comfort and heat-regulating performance.
- The second layer of the Bloom mattress is 1″ of gel visco memory foam. This layer contains 3 zones, with the center third containing synthetic latex. This layer provides an additional level of support and relief to your hips, one of the major pressure points on the body.
- The third layer of the Bloom mattress is 1″ of visco memory foam. This layer acts as a transitional layer between the two comfort layers and the final support layer.
- The final layer of foam in the Bloom mattress is 7.5” of polyurethane foam. This layer which gives the Bloom mattress its structure and prevents sleepers from sinking in too far.
- Bloom does not provide density information for any of their layers of foam on their website. A Sleep Country customer service representative informed us that the Bloom mattress contains foams that are between 1.5 lbs/ft³ and 2.8 lbs/ft³.
Douglas Mattress Layers
Douglas uses three layers of foam in the construction of its Canadian-made mattress.- First layer: 2 inches of ecoLight® cooling gel foam. This cooling gel encourages a restful sleep by ensuring that the mattress doesn’t trap heat. The ecoLight® foam has the durability, responsiveness, and comfort of memory foam, but it has a lower carbon footprint. Foam density: 2.5 lbs/ft3.
- Second layer: 2 inches of Elastex® foam. This transition layer is designed to provide spring and support. Many mattresses use latex for similar reasons. Elastex® is free of the allergy-causing chemicals found in latex.
- Third layer: 6 inches of motion isolation support foam. This thick bottom layer greatly reduces motion transfer between sleepers, and it also enhances edge support.
Endy vs Bloom vs Douglas Mattress Cover
Endy

Douglas
Endy Mattress Cover
The Endy mattress has a two-tone cover. The bottom part of the cover is a heavier duty grey fabric, and the top part of the cover is white with a diamond knit pattern. The top part of the cover is made primarily of polyester and contains a small amount of lycra for stretch. Unlike other mattresses on the market, including Douglas and Bloom, Endy does not highlight eco-conscious fabric. The top portion of the Endy mattress can be unzipped and cleaned in the washing machine as necessary.
Bloom Mattress Cover
The Bloom mattress has a unique cover design which utilizes neutral pastel colours, with turquoise, soft grey, and white. The Bloom mattress is advertised as having an ‘Organic Cotton’ washable top cover. This top cover is machine washable and can be simply zipped off from the base unit and put in the washing machine on a low heat.
Douglas Mattress Cover
With its mountainscape stitching to its red and white colour profile, Douglas’ Canadian-centric cover shows the brand's homegrown roots. Cut from a single piece of fabric and woven together, the design is almost seamless. The red zipper running the entire length of the side wall and the red Douglas badge are the only elements that break up this impressive white canvas.
As for upkeep, the top half is machine washable, a bonus for anyone who can't stand the thought of spot cleaning their bed by hand. Douglas' cover is enhanced with moisture-wicking Infinitex™ fibres. This proprietary fabric is stretch-knit and very soft, but also extremely durable. The cover is great for staying cool and breathable through the night, so you won't wake up in a pool of sweat.
