#1 Douglas: Best Medium Firm Mattress
Overview
- Price (Queen): $799
- Sleep Trial: 365-nights
- Warranty: 20-years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 4.8/5 (Excellent)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 4.85/5 (A+)
Key Features
Top-rated motion isolation
10-inch height
Cooling gel foam
Eco-conscious design
One fine-tuned firmness approved for all sleep styles
Why It’s Best
A combination of quality construction and materials, performance, affordable prices, a lengthy sleep trial and warranty propel Douglas to earn one of the top spots on our list.
Many mattress brands advertise that their mattresses are medium-firm, the universal firmness that best suits most sleep styles and body types. However, not brands deliver on their claims.
With a firmness rating of 6.6 / 10 for the Douglas Original, 6.4 / 10 for the Douglas Alpine, and 6.3 / 10 for the Douglas Summit from third-party engineer test results, it’s clear that Douglas is one of the few brands that genuinely offers a medium-firm mattress.
The Douglas mattress collection’s medium-firm feel provides optimal comfort and support. This makes it a versatile choice for sleepers looking for a mattress that offers just enough “hug” while giving plenty of support to maintain spinal alignment. A slight hug can provide pressure point relief and help eliminate back pain.
Sleepers looking for a mattress with industry-leading motion isolation will be happy to hear that the Douglas mattress collection performs incredibly well in that regard. In third-party testing of over 115 popular mattresses, the Douglas Summit earned the top spot as the best mattress for motion isolation, closely followed by the Douglas Alpine in second place, and the Douglas Original in fourth.
Lastly, Douglas offers a 365-night sleep trial, one of the longest in the industry. Pair that with an incredible 20-year warranty, and you have a winning combination of comfort, support, and peace of mind.
★★★★★

The Logan & Cove is a luxury hybrid mattress that combines multiple layers of foam and zoned pocket coils to provide the perfect balance of comfort and support. The mattress’s luxurious design makes it an easy choice for the second spot on our list.
The mattress layers are constructed with cooling gel foam and soy-infused bio-foam to deliver an incredibly cool, dry, and breathable comfort all night long. ★★★★★

#3 Octave: Best Memory Foam
Overview
- Price (Queen): $899
- Sleep Trial: 365 nights
- Warranty: 15 years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 4.8/5 (Excellent)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 4.85/5 (A+)
Key Features
Higher-density copper-infused gel foam for pressure point relief
Phase-change material designed to balance body temperature
Machine-washable cooling nanofibre cover
Multi-zone support foam with breathable built-in air channels
Why It’s Best
The Octave Vista is a unique copper-gel memory foam mattress that delivers advanced cooling and pressure-point relief. Octave offers a medium-firm feel, full-body contouring, and balanced support, making it an excellent choice for all sleep styles.
While similar memory foam mattresses trap heat, Octave Vista is designed to keep you comfortable with the latest cooling technology.
- Octave Vista is cool to the touch, thanks to CryoFusion™ cooling nanofibres in the machine-washable top cover. Octave Mirage and Octave Horizon, the brand’s next-level models, provide even more cooling comfort with a higher amount of nanofibres for each.
- The mattress’s top layer is copper-infused gel memory foam, paired with PolarMAX® moisture-wicking phase-change material. This high-performance layer pulls heat and sweat away from your body for a cooler, more comfortable sleep. Copper also has anti-microbial properties, which can help keep your mattress clean and fresh.
- Beneath the transition layer of premium, body-contouring Elastex® foam, Octave’s bottom layer is constructed from high-density motion isolation support foam that contains integrated air channels to let warm air escape and fresh air flow through. Five pressure-relief zones provide support for your entire body.
To top it off, Octave prices begin at $599 CAD, a fraction of the cost of similar store-bought mattresses, including many Tempur-Pedic options ($2,499+).
★★★★★
Love!
“I’ve had my [Octave] for 6 months now and I absolutely cannot get enough of it! I sleep much deeper and more restfully. I also don’t have back pain anymore which has been a chronic problem for quite some time. It has improved many facets of my life. Best decision I made!”

#4 Juno: Best Value Foam
Overview
- Price (Queen): $499
- Sleep Trial: 120-nights
- Warranty: 15-years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 4.8/5 (Excellent)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 4.85/5 (A+)
Key Features
Cooling gel foam
Total support foam
8-inch height
Heat-dissipating fabric cover with Cool+ upgrade
Fine-tuned firmness good for all sleep positions
Why It’s Best
The Juno mattress earned its spot on this list due to a combination of its fine-tuned firmness and incredibly affordable price tag. At only $499 for a queen size ($578 with the Cool+ Cover upgrade), its value is unmatched among other popular mattresses at its price-point on the market today.
The mattress includes a full-body cooling gel foam layer, which helps draw heat away from the body and promote airflow. On top of keeping sleepers cool throughout the night, this layer also provides targeted support and pressure relief, but also to keep sleepers cool throughout the night.
In addition to the cooling gel foam layer, the Juno mattress is available with the highly coveted Cool+ Cover. This soft, breathable cover is infused with cooling yarn, which steals heat from the body, spreads it across the surface of the mattress, and releases it back into the air.
Overall, the combination of comfort and affordability makes the Juno mattress an excellent choice for price-sensitive shoppers seeking a medium-firm mattress.
★★★★★
Very Fast Shipping And a Comfy Mattress!
“My mattress shipped out and arrived to me in less than 2 days, much faster than expected. I’m replacing an expensive latex and memory foam mattress, and it’s just as comfortable and supportive. I’m a side sleeper and slept great the first night.”

#5 Endy
Overview
- Price (Queen): $895
- Sleep Trial: 100-nights
- Warranty: 15-years (Conditional)
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.6/5 (Average)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: Unaccredited
Key Features
3 layer design
10-inch height
Machine-washable cover
Endy comfort foam
Why Endy Didn’t Make the Top 3
Endy, owned by Sleep Country, is one of Canada’s most well-known bed-in-a-box mattress brands. Despite the brand’s paid partnerships with social media influencers and lifestyle bloggers, Endy has yet to such efforts translate to positive reviews from actual customers.
On Trustpilot, Endy only rates as “Average,” and the brand is unaccredited by the Better Business Bureau. But there are other reasons why Endy didn’t land in one of the top spots on our BestMedium Firm Mattress.
The Endy mattress has a three-layer design giving the mattress a height of 10 inches. The first layer is Endy comfort foam. The second and final layer of the mattress are both polyurethane foam. The machine-washable cover is made of polyester and lycra. Selling for $895 CAD, the Endy mattress falls squarely into the mid-market price category. However, it doesn’t have cooling gel foam or good edge support like our top pick, Douglas.
Finally, the most significant drawback is the mattress’s firmness and feel. The top layer of the Endy mattress has significant ‘hug’, but the support layer is quite firm. This led to the mattress scoring a firmness rating of 7.4 / 10 during third-party engineer testing, which is firmer than what you’d expect for a medium firm mattress. Back and stomach sleepers might find this mattress more comfortable than side sleepers who rely on a little bit of extra sinkage to help with spinal alignment or prevent the buildup of pressure points around the shoulders, hips, and other joints.
#6 Casper Original
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,499
- Sleep Trial: 100-nights
- Warranty: 10-years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.9/5 (Great)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1.09/5
Key Features
3 layer design
11-inch height
Zoned support
Why Casper Didn’t Make the Top 3
Casper is one of the most well-known mattress brands in North America. Once considered the market leader in the bed-in-a-box space, Casper has stumbled and made headlines. According to CNN, Casper reported annual losses for consecutive years despite surging sales.
Casper Original is the company’s flagship product. The latest offering introduced a notable change to the bed’s overall construction. Casper Original now has fewer layers, a softer overall feel, and has lost an inch from its total height. Despite the difference in size and composition, the price remains the same, selling at $1,499 CAD for a queen.
As we briefly noted earlier, the new version no longer includes the second comfort layer and has replaced the zoned transition foam with zoned memory foam. This change may account for some of the loss of firmness; in third-party engineer testing the Casper Original got a score of 4.8 / 10 in terms of firmness. This would classify the mattress as “medium,” not medium firm.
On top of a change in firmness, the Casper Original ranked as “average” regarding motion isolation and edge support despite commanding a premium price tag. Casper’s 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty, also fall in the “average” category compared to other offers on the market.
Ultimately, price, a lackluster sleep trial and warranty, mediocre engineer-testing results, and lack of true medium-firm feel held Casper out of contention for a top spot on our list. Customers looking for a medium firm mattress should look elsewhere.
#7 GhostBed Classic
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,695
- Sleep Trial: 101-nights
- Warranty: 20-years
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 1.3/5 (Poor)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1/5
Key Features
3 layer design
11-inch height
Cooling gel foam
Latex foam layer
Why GhostBed Didn’t Make the Top 3
GhostBed is an American brand that initially launched with the GhostBed Classic in 2015. Still proudly based in the United States, the company has expanded its product catalogue and begun selling mattresses in Canada.
Despite seemingly glowing reviews on GhostBed’s website, poor experiences raised by customers on Consumer Affairs, Trustpilot, and the Better Business Bureau raise serious red flags. Most recently, GhostBed has been the subject of a CBC News story regarding customers unable to return their mattresses for a refund, along with other customer service issues.
Despite advertising the GhostBed Classic as medium-firm on their website, according to the testing conducted by third-party engineers (commissioned by us), it comes in at 5.2 / 10 on the firmness spectrum. This puts the GhostBed Classic mattress at a medium level of firmness. Other online mattresses are slightly more firm than GhostBed Classic so that they can better accommodate the comfort preferences of individuals who weigh more than 150 lbs.
Finally, the GhostBed Classic is priced at a staggering $1,695 CAD for a queen. This is well above its direct competitors, and might keep it outside the budget of many shoppers. If you’re looking for a medium-firm foam mattress from a company with good third-party reviews, a more extended sleep trial, and a more attractive price, we recommend Douglas (our top pick) instead.
#8 Puffy
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,599
- Sleep Trial: 101-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.9/5 (Great)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 2.3/5 (D-)
Key Features
2 layer design
10-inch height
Cooling Cloud™ foam
Firm core support foam
Why Puffy Didn’t Make the Top 3
Headquartered in the United States, the Puffy mattress is one of many foam mattresses available online that can be delivered to your door. After appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2017, the Puffy mattress quickly became a popular name in the industry and expanded into Canada.
Despite their initial success, negative reviews and complaints from actual customers are hard to ignore. Hundreds of complaints have been filed against the company on the Better Business Bureau, many of which were product performance and warranty-related issues. Puffy is also ranked #3 on Reddit’s r/Mattress top brands to avoid list.
Surprisingly, the Puffy mattress contains only two layers of foam. This is uncommon as most bed-in-a-box companies use three or more layers. Third-party engineer test results also indicate that the Puffy mattress leans more towards medium soft than medium firm. While cushioning is a good thing, especially for side sleepers, enough support has to be there for proper spinal alignment. Sleepers under 125 pounds may enjoy this mattress, but heavier side sleepers will want a more firm mattress.
Finally, there’s price. With a price tag of $1,599 CAD for a queen, the Puffy mattress is considerably more expensive than other mattresses with similar (or better) offerings.
Competitors like the Douglas (our top pick), comes in at $799 CAD for a queen, has a more robust layer design, and has a firmness that suits more body types.
#9 Nectar
Overview
- Price (Queen): $899
- Sleep Trial: 365-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.7/5 (Average)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1/5
Key Features
5 layer design
13-inch height
Zoned support
Pillow-top construction
Cooling fabric cover
Why Nectar Didn’t Make the Top 3
For better or worse, an unforgettable buying experience typically boils down to three key factors: price, quality, and customer service. If a mattress company can nail this trifecta, it should be able to serve up sweet dreams night after night.
The Nectar mattress may have some positive features, such as an appealing trial period and warranty, but there may be better options for sleepers suffering from back pain. Although Nectar describes their mattress as medium-firm, third-party testing indicates it is pretty soft and has little edge support. This can be especially problematic for sleepers needing extra support to alleviate back pain.
Nectar does a great job promoting how many mattresses they’ve sold and their favourable customer reviews. However, it’s a different story where Nectar doesn’t control the narrative. Reviews on sites like Trustpilot, the Better Business Bureau, and Reddit highlight real customers’ concerns when dealing with Nectar. To top it off, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has charged Nectar’s parent company, Resident Home LLC, multiple times for false advertising claims.
Canadian shoppers looking for a foam mattress to alleviate their back pain may consider other options from more reputable Canadian companies.
#10 DreamCloud
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,399
- Sleep Trial: 365-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 2.6/5 (Poor)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1/5
Key Features
1% Cashmere cover
14-inch height
5 layer design
Shift-resistant lower cover
Why DreamCloud Didn’t Make the Top 3
DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress that’s been on the market since 2018 and was made available in Canada in December 2022. Although it boasts a 365-night sleep trial and a “Lifetime Warranty,” it has drawbacks.
Commissioned third-party engineer testing concluded that DreamCloud has a firmness rating of 5.7/ 10. DreamCloud tied with the Endy Hybrid as the softest hybrid mattress ever tested by Mattress-Reviews.com. If you weigh over 125 pounds or like to sleep on your back and stomach, DreamCloud may not have enough support to keep your spine in a comfortable, neutral position.
Selling at $1,399 for a queen, the DreamCloud sits just outside of the mid-market price point. Meanwhile, it lacks luxury features offered by its Canadian competitors at lower price points, like zoned support.
Finally, DreamCloud’s lack of transparency regarding where the mattress is made is also a cause for concern. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has fined the company multiple times for falsely claiming that its mattresses are made in the USA. It’s also ranked #2 on a pinned r/Mattress subreddit post for top brands to avoid, with sister brand Nectar taking the top spot.
Final Thoughts
Finding the right mattress is essential to getting a good night’s sleep. A medium firm mattress offers the right balance between offering enough support to maintain spinal alignment and cushioning to provide pressure point relief.
Factors like motion isolation, edge support, and durability should also be considered when mattress shopping.
The Top 3 Best Medium Firm Mattresses on our list have been chosen for their ability to meet these criteria and provide the ultimate sleeping experience.
Now that you have all the information you need, it’s time to make a choice and start shopping. We hope that our guide has been helpful in your search for the perfect mattress for you. If you’re ready to take the next step and get the best price on one of our Top 3 Picks, click the links below!
