Why It’s Best
A combination of quality construction and materials, performance, affordable prices, a lengthy sleep trial and warranty propel Douglas Alpine to earn the top spot on our list.

This means that Douglas is particularly adept at absorbing movement, making it a smart choice for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s restless sleep.
The Douglas Alpine features ecoLight® cooling gel foam enhanced with Polar® active temperature balancing. #5 Endy
Overview
- Price (Queen): $895
- Sleep Trial: 100-nights
- Warranty: 15-years (Conditional)
- Made In: Canada
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.6/5 (Average)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: Unaccredited
Key Features
3 layer design
10-inch height
All-foam construction
Endy comfort foam
Why the Endy Didn’t Make the Top 3
Endy, owned by Sleep Country, is one of Canada’s most well-known bed-in-a-box mattress brands. Despite the brand’s paid partnerships with social media influencers and lifestyle bloggers have yet to translate to positive reviews from actual customers.
On Trustpilot, Endy only rates as “Average,” and the brand is unaccredited by the Better Business Bureau. But there are other reasons why Endy didn’t land in one of the top spots on our Best Mattress For Side Sleepers list.
Selling for $895 CAD for a queen, the Endy mattress is more expensive than its competitors, like the Douglas Original ($799 CAD), and offers fewer features. It does not come with cooling gel foam or high-density memory foam, and has below-average edge support.
However, the biggest drawback is the firmness of the Endy mattress. Endy’s top layer has a significant amount of ‘hug,’ which is suitable for anyone wanting a softer feel from their mattress. That’s not to say this is a soft mattress overall; the bottom two layers of the mattress are slightly firmer and keep sleepers from sinking much beyond the two-inch top layer.
This isn’t ideal for side sleepers who rely on a little extra sinkage to help with spinal alignment or prevent the buildup of pressure points around the shoulders, hips, and other joints.
#6 Puffy
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,599
- Sleep Trial: 101-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: Canada or USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.8/5 (Great)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 2.1/5 (D-)
Key Features
2 layer design
10-inch height
Cooling Cloud™ foam
Firm core support foam
Why Puffy Didn’t Make the Top 3
Headquartered in the United States, the Puffy mattress is one of many foam mattresses available online that can be delivered to your door. After appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2017, the Puffy mattress quickly became a popular name in the industry and expanded into Canada.
Despite their initial success, negative reviews and complaints from actual customers are hard to ignore. Hundreds of complaints have been filed against the company on the Better Business Bureau, many of which were product performance and warranty-related issues. Puffy is also ranked #3 on Reddit’s r/Mattress top brands to avoid list.
Surprisingly, the Puffy mattress contains only two layers of foam. This is uncommon as most bed-in-a-box companies use three or more layers. Third-party engineer test results also indicate that the Puffy mattress leans towards medium-soft. While cushioning is a good thing, especially for side sleepers, enough support has to be there for proper spinal alignment. Sleepers under 125 pounds may enjoy this mattress, but heavier side sleepers will want to get a more firm mattress.
Finally, there’s price. With a price tag of $1,599 CAD for a queen, the Puffy mattress is considerably more expensive than other mattresses with similar (or better) offerings.
Competitors like the Douglas Alpine (our winner for Best Mattress For Side Sleepers), comes in at $999 CAD for a queen, has a more robust layer design, and has a firmness that suits more body types.
#7 Nectar
Overview
- Price (Queen): $899
- Sleep Trial: 365-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 3.7/5 (Average)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1/5
Key Features
5 layer design
13-inch height
Zoned support
Pillow-top construction
Cooling fabric cover
Why Nectar Didn’t Make the Top 3
While Nectar offers an impressive 365-night sleep trial and a 15-year warranty, there are better options available that offer more features and are better suited to side sleepers.
Nectar describes its mattress as medium-firm, third-party testing indicates it is pretty soft and has little edge support. This can be especially problematic for sleepers needing extra support or need to maintain proper spinal alignment to alleviate back pain or to prevent triggering pressure points.
Nectar does a great job promoting how many mattresses they’ve sold and their favourable customer reviews. However, it’s a different story where Nectar doesn’t control the narrative. Reviews on sites like Trustpilot, the Better Business Bureau, and Reddit highlight real customers’ concerns when dealing with Nectar. To top it off, the Federal Trade Commission has charged Nectar’s parent company, Resident Home LLC, multiple times for false advertising claims.
Canadian shoppers looking for a foam mattress for side sleeping may consider other options from more reputable Canadian companies.
#8 Helix
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,867
- Sleep Trial: 100-nights
- Warranty: 10-years
- Made In: USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 2.5/5 (Poor)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1.41/5
Key Features
4 layer design
10-inch height
Helix dynamic foam
2.5″ pocketed micro-coils
Why Helix Didn’t Make the Top 3
The Helix mattress was first launched in the USA in 2015, and eventually expanded into the Canadian market in January 2016. Its primary selling feature is certainly its customization.
For a personalized mattress recommendation, you’re asked to take a quiz on the Helix website that asks a series of questions about your unique physical description and sleep tendencies. Based on a sleepers quiz results, they can choose between foam or hybrid mattress options. While the quiz and customization can help side sleepers find the right mattress, it comes with a hefty price tag and drawbacks.
Canadians can expect to pay a whopping $1,867 CAD price tag for a queen-size mattress. There’s also $250 shipping fee per mattress to ship to Canada. Helix does not ship to the Yukon, Nunavut, or Northwest Territories.
Regardless of the configuration, each Helix mattress includes four layers of support materials. Unlike Novosbed (our pick for Best Memory Foam Mattress For Side Sleepers), Helix mattress models are not made with high-density memory foam.
This isn’t inherently bad, but high-density memory foam is known it’s slow contouring and pinpointed pressure-point relief. Side sleepers can greatly benefit from pinpointed pressure relief to prevent any hip, shoulder, or neck pain while side sleeping. Given the price, you’d expect to see some sort of memory foam in one of the layers of the mattress. You also cannot adjust the firmness of the mattress after purchase.
Finally, there’s the discrepancy between their paid reviews on affiliate websites and their actual customer reviews. Helix is rated has only a 2.5/5 (Poor) rating on Trustpilot and a 1.41/5 rating on the Better Business Bureau.
When you put all these pieces together, it’s clear that we couldn’t place Helix in one of the top spots.
#9 DreamCloud
Overview
- Price (Queen): $1,399
- Sleep Trial: 365-nights
- Warranty: Lifetime
- Made In: USA
- Trustpilot Rating: 2.6/5 (Poor)
- Better Business Bureau Rating: 1/5
Key Features
1% Cashmere cover
14-inch height
5 layer design
Shift-resistant lower cover
Why DreamCloud Didn’t Make the Top 3
DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress that’s been on the market since 2018 and was made available in Canada in December 2022. Although it boasts a 365-night sleep trial and a “Lifetime Warranty,” it has drawbacks, which ultimately kept DreamCloud from getting a top spot on our list.
Commissioned third-party engineer testing concluded that DreamCloud has a firmness rating of 5.7/ 10. DreamCloud is one of the softest hybrid mattress ever tested by Mattress-Reviews.com. If you weigh over 125 pounds, DreamCloud may not have enough support to keep your spine in a neutral position that’s essential to prevent any back, neck, or shoulder pain even when sleeping on your side.
DreamCloud’s lack of transparency regarding where the mattress is made is also a cause for concern. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has fined the company multiple times for falsely claiming that its mattresses are made in the USA. It’s also ranked #2 on a pinned r/Mattress subreddit post for top brands to avoid, with sister brand Nectar taking the top spot.
Last but not least, is price. DreamCloud is priced at $1,399 for a queen, which is above mid-market price. Meanwhile, it lacks luxury and essential features offered by its Canadian competitors at lower price points. The Logan & Cove (our pick for Best Hybrid For Side Sleepers), for example, has zoned support, multiple layers of cooling gel foam, and a silk-infused pillow-top. The DreamCloud mattress doesn’t have any of those things.
Final Thoughts
Finding the right mattress is essential to getting a good night’s sleep when you’re a side sleeper can be challenging. Especially, when many mattress companies claim to have a mattress that suits all sleeping positions and body types.
The key is to find a mattress that will provide a balance between the right amount of support to maintain spinal alignment and cushioning to provide pressure point relief. But it’s important not to forget factors like motion isolation, edge support, and durability that should also be considered when mattress shopping.
The Best Mattresses For Side Sleepers on our list have been chosen for their ability to meet these criteria and provide the ultimate sleeping experience.
Now that you have all the information you need, it’s time to make a choice and start shopping. We hope that our guide has been helpful in your search for the perfect mattress for you. If you’re ready to take the next step and get the best price on one of our Top 3 Picks, click the links below!
